Default Forget border collies... lets talk about those crazy herding people

I am about to blow a fuse, I think! There is a poster on another forum that every time someone mentions a herding breed goes on and on about how they are terrible pets and you shouldn't have them around kids and cats, etc. (they may eat your kid, I guess) And obviously if you're not on a farm, you shouldn't have one.

I understand this person has a poodledoodlemaltiwhatever and likes little fluffy, docile dogs, but really... not everyone does! I have tried and tried explaining about the group and the breeds but of course I know nothing because he's 'read some books'. (despite having 20 years of herding breed ownership under my belt- okay... 15 if you don't count when I was tiny lol)

I want to know what on earth he is reading!?

I feel better having ranted though.

Ugh, that's annoying.

I've only had a herding breed for a short time, but I'm already hooked on them! I <3 herding breeds.

.... well I agree they're not right for every household... and some breeds are more "crazy" than others.... but they're definately GREAT dogs!!!

I think it's time you stopped going 'to that other forum' They're going to give you grey hairs!

/Lizmo goes into hiding because she is one of those crazy herding people.

Lol, I think this person is just insane or a troll.... now they think shelter dogs are only for the experienced and would never recommend someone get a rescue for a pet. (Cause they all have problems)

And they think all pet people should have greyhounds, whippets, maltese, poodles, havanese or a mix thereof. *head meets wall*

It's funny, but I've never heard of border collies or other herding dogs being crazy or bad with kids. We've had Zoe, who is part border collie for over 3 years and she is a joy. She loves kids, and pretty much everyone else, and though she does have a lot of energy and sometimes tries to "herd" other dogs, I've never heard any disparaging remarks about the breed. I wonder where that comes from.

lol, aftre living with our mixed bunch where we had three out of four herding breed mixes, I can say they're not for everyone but if they suit they're just incredible.
People did look a bit taken back when we told them what breeds we had.
I guess you could describe the look on some people's faces as "terror"

I am pretty sure I know what you are talking about Lauralin. And when I saw that I was like WHAT?? do they even know what they are talking about? I know for a fact that herding breeds can be amazing wonderful pet dogs. Some peoples way of thinking confuse me sometimes!

I adore my herding breeds.
My shelties are awesome with small animals and kids! they live and sleep with three rabbits for crying out loud!
