Default took the dog hunting the other day

it was the first chance to run him since the season opened. got out late in the afternoon and worked some crop fields hoping to run a deer coming out to feed. that spot was a bust so as it was getting dark we headed over to a spot some of my Marines claimed they had seen hog sign. no hog sign so i decided to try calling for coyote for Sonic to run. we were on a forest service road on the south edge of a coastal pine savannah. i am using a turkey diaphragm call to sound like a fox getting his butt handed to him (coyote go out of their way to kill fox in their territory). we move up the road a bit every so often calling & sweeping the light looking for incoming coyotes or any coons that happen to be out. well i'm calling ringing the dinner bell and i see something in the road that doesn't look quite right. i put the light on it & it is a large FRESH pile of BEAR POOP. as i only have a knife on me i decide that i had better shut the heck up.
hopefully we can get out again tonight.

the worst day hunting is better than the best day working.

Cool story....

Using a Turkey diaphram call to sound like a fox? THATS a interesting skill.

What brand/model of call are you using to do that?

Puck
HS Strut but any brand should work. i bought a 3 pack and though each is a little different you can make the same basic sound w/all. instead of holding it correctly you slant the open end down about 30 degrees. if you know what a fox sounds like getting chewed on you can play w/ them & figure out the sound. it's spotty at first but once you get it it's easy just like using them for turkey.

Well, then, sounds like you need a video camera!

Ok... That makes sense. Even being sans dead turkey the last two years, I and cutt, purr and yelp very well on a diaphram call. You just gave me something new to try! LOL
