Default Curious...

Why do most chest freezers have locks on them? I was just looking at mine, and realised that it had a lock on it..

Why would you want to lock your freezer? If someone breaks into your house, they're not exactly going to help themselves to the contents now are they, they're more likely just to take the freezer and run.

Is it a dietary aid perhaps? Because I know tons of people who sneak down in the night just to suck on a frozen chicken leg.. If you didn't want people eating loads of ice cream, then you just wouldn't buy it would you..

And I can't see a small child managing to A) Get the door up by themselves, and B) climb into the freezer without the aid of a chair or something, and I think most parents would notice a child dragging a chair to the freezer and climbing in.

Surely if you lived in a shared house, you wouldn't buy an enormous chest freezer just for yourself and then lock it?

It was just one of those things that struck me as odd..

don't underestimate small motivated children. they can get into a lot of trouble even w/ watchful parents. start tacking on siblings (most people who buy larger chest freezers have larger families and need the bigger models) to distract parents and opportunity to cause havoc increases dramatically.

To hide a body? You don't want someone poking around in your body hiding freezer now do you?

Safety feature. Small children used to get trapped in those things on a fairly regular basis, both when they were in use and after. So you are supposed to keep them locked if you have kids, and lock it when you get rid of it too.

I think you're suppose to take the door off the hinges when you get rid of those things. I have one...it's a great big Kenmore from Sears I've had for about 30 + years. It's amazing how long they last. Yup....kids are unbelievably stupid sometimes. ROFLOL!
