Those in chat last night already heard this
![]() Yesterday was a JRT funday, we took the pups, Dekka and Snip. (the weather was nasty nasty when we left so only wanted to take a few in small crates who could stay in the back of the truck) I have been worried that Kat is bigger than I would like for her age, but then I saw other peoples 6-8 month old dogs (the dekklets are 5 months) I am not worried ![]() It stopped raining for the most part. Kat had never worn a muzzle nor raced before but was a trouper. A few times when the other dogs were too fast (older dogs) she would stop and look for me. Against puppies she was good. We tried Go to Ground, as I was explaining to the person running it that she was a total newbie she entered the tunnel. She then proceeded to go to the end of the tunnel (complete with turn) and scream JRT obscenities at the rat. Good puppeh! I was running Barn Hunt, so I let her play around with it a few times. Once she realized there was a rat in one of the tubes she loved the game. Solo on the other hand just pranced around the area all happy happy and didn't pay any attn to the fact there was a rat. ![]() A couple of breeders critiqued Kat and had very nice things to say about her. Now when I told some of these people I was going to breed Dekka they looked at me strangely (Dekka, whilst adorableness personified, would never place in a confo class) There was general impressedness that this litter came out of Dekka. One of the breeders offered to trade Wash for a young bitch, she really thought he was very nice. I was quite flattered but want less dogs lol. The only thing that made me a bit sad was watching other ppl with their JRTs. There were some very overstimulated terriers there, and people holding them down on the ground. Someone said to me derogatorily that I was a 'pez dispenser' As when Kat would freak out at another dog I would reward her for attn. She was starting to freak then stop and look at me. This to me is a huge step over freaking and continuing to freak. After an hour or so at the trial she could be screaming nasty things to another JRT (who often was snarling or barking back) I would say her name, she would instantly turn face me, sit and wait focused on my face. I love my puppeh. Solo was also a huge hit with his very happy people winning ways. Over all it was a good day. Even if Dekka refused to do super earth... |

Sounds like a stimulating day. You have done great things with Kat. This is such a mile stone when they look to you for security like that. And it sure sounds like she had a wee of a good time.
That must indeed be hard to watch, how other people were treating their dogs. Such a shame. How pleasing though, it must be, to watch Kat grow and turn into such a lovely dog. Way to go!

Hey Wash is still available to a home where someone is going to do something with him and keep him intact (at least till he is mature)
Super earth is like go to ground.. but on steroids. It goes up and down instead of being level, is much much longer. Has a roller the dog has to go over, often an area the dog has to dig through, a narrow area, greater than 90 degree turns and multiple dead ends. Dekka has won this event at trials, but the last few times she gets almost to the end and then turns around and comes out the entrance. We had an argument at the roller... A lot of dogs were not going past the roller, and there is a hatch there. So I opened it, Dekka was past the roller. She was on her way back to the entrance, was surprised to see me. I told her to go get the rat and pointed the way. She just lay down and said no. I tried to get her to go that way.. no. She wanted to go out the entrance and then sprint around the tunnels to get the rat! Snip however DID do the super earth. (many dogs who are great at GtG won't do super earth. Zo won GtG at nats last year, she was very good at that game. But she would only go about 30 feet in the super earth and then either bark there or turn around. |

OMG!!! Super earth sounds FUN!!! I guess Dekka said, I've won at trails already, I'm done with this! Esp, when I can just walk around the whole mess to get the rat! Lol. The terrier racing also looks really fun!
As far as Wash, I'm still scared of terriers! maybe when I take the westy up to Canada this summer you can change my mind on them!
