Default Furry Babies

So I went to the mall today so I could stop at Payless. I don't go to the mall anymore, ever since the pet store opened (except for a brief stint when the first one closed, and until I heard the second one was opening.)
I parked on the wrong side of the mall because I wanted to park somewhere without a bunch of people, so I had to walk all the way through the mall to get to the Payless. And I forgot that meant I had to walk past the pet store.

I walked by willing myself not to even peek inside, I didn't want to see it, I didn't want to think about it. But I couldn't help seeing.
The dogs are not in pens, crates, or fishtanks in the window the way they were at the old store.

They are in wooden cribs.

Seriously. WTF.

The store must think that is cute? Like, well, furry babies?

I would not care if they put them in designer hand bags and back packs. It does not change the fact that they came from a puppy mill. Places like these need some people out in front of the store handing out this brochure in the link.

http://www.petshoppuppies.org/brochure.pdf

This brochure is folded so that the prospective customer sees the front of the brochure that shows the cute puppy on it with the words "The Joy Of A Puppy". It is a type of brochure that if handed out in front of a store like that would get read.

No, actually - that gets you escorted out of the mall.

Yeah, I'm assuming the cribs are "cute" because they are "babies." Pretty much makes me want to vomit.

There was a store like that here... I think the idea is that people can more easily pet/interact with the pets... but that seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

It might get someone escorted out of the mall but at least some would get handed out and if there was enough doing it or enough times someone got escorted from the mall it might bring the media attention to a place like that.

The store is not renting the space outside the store, they are only renting the inside of the store. As long as people do not block access to the store then it should not be a problem. Places like this exist because people do not want to get involved.

I have personally been to quite a few protests of various sorts. One was at a Federal Building in California. The group was told that they do not have access to the building but when I spoke about it being a public building paid for by the taxpayers the protesters were granted access and carried on demonstration inside the lobby.

People may not be able to hand out a brochure inside this store but they can certainly hand them out in front of the store as it is a common public place and by handing out a brochure to someone willingly accepting the brochure your handing out you are expressing your first amendment rights.

Most recently I went to the puppy mill awareness day in Lancaster. We had over 2000 people that marched into an outside mall handing out the same brochure that I linked above. I also personally was handing them out to Amish children as we walked the mile long route so they could be educated about what their own people were doing. There was also a young Amish man and 4 Amish children couple at the event.

No, trust me, they cannot. Multiple people/groups have tried and they are escorted out. It doesn't matter how quiet they are about it or how respectful they are - they are escorted out.
And it also tends to give a bad public impression, no matter what the cause.

They HAVE protested across the street from the new location of the store that used to be in this space, but when it came to the mall location, it was a no go.

A mall actually isn't a common public place... It's privately owned property. You may be able to protest on the the side walk near the street entrance of a mall, but once you get into their parking lot you are on private property. If they want you to leave, they have every right to make you do so.

Then they should have had the media there with their cameras before the protest took place. This way it would have been on the news and might have educated people about where the dogs come from in pet stores.

Also I do not see how the public gets a bad impression from a protest. If people have a bad impression about people exercising their rights then it is those people that are ignorant. If it were not for protests and wars we would not have the rights and freedoms we have today.
