Default Another guess the breeds post

This is Skittles. She's one of Mom's fosters. She is supposedly full Great Pyrenees. There is no way. She frolicks and prances around. She is all loose and floppy in the way she moves her legs. And a lot about her just doesn't look Pyr to us. We are leaning either golden retriever or lab. Excuse the grossness of her ears and neck...she'd been playing in the dog pen with the others half the day.

No self respecting pyr flops and begs for belly rubs LOL!

A nice up the nostril shot LOL!

A sort-of side view

And the kisses are too cute not to include...excuse my crazy hair LOL!

That would surprise me in this area, but some of the pictures I googled up look pretty close. And, since they look very much like pyrs, someone could have mistaken one of her parents for a pyr. She does have the pyr double dew claws so there is at least some pyr in her. She'll be a big girl though...at 16 months she's a 88lbs. That is up from 50ish 4 months ago when she came in to rescue.

ETA: I wish I had a video of her playing. We have NEVER had a pyr come in that plays like this. Even the 3 month old puppies are very solemn. She's as goofy as a golden in her play.

She looks almost exactly like the BYB pyr that lived near us when we lived in the apartments. We passed him every day on our walks. He also had a lot of frolicky behavior, and he was an adult.

There was a huge fad about a decade ago to cross goldens with pyrs. I'm willing to bet a fair number ended up with bybers and incorporated into the byb pyr lines. Especially ones that looked more pyr.

She may or may not be pure bred. There are a lot of out of standard pyrs running around being sold in the newspapers.

The Kuvasz standard states that dewclaws, if present, are removed. This makes me think it's not uncommon to have them or else it wouldn't be mentioned in the breed standard. And they are smaller than the GP, with bitches being 70 to 90 lbs.

And, if I remember correctly, Kuvasz are kind of on the shy side compared to GP. Honestly, tho, my first thought when seeing the pics is Pyr/Golden Retriever mix.

I've seen people state the opposite, saying that a shy Kuvasz was indicative of bad temperament sneaking in the breed. ??

I wouldn't argue with Pyr/Golden mix ...
