Default 10 Qs.. one afternoon :) CPE and AAC

Think we had our best agility trial to date really. My kids rock my socks often.. but today was a Wow.. Entered 10 rounds of agility between the dogs.. and walked away with 10 Qs and 10 first places..

We did a 1/2 and 1/2 trial. 4 rounds of CPE agility followed by an afternoon of AAC agility. I entered Cider in all 4 rounds of CPE level 3 (the highest they'll let you start at).. and she Q'd all 4 rounds with 1sts though I think there was like one dog competing against her.. There were so many levels that there wasn't a lot of competition..

I entered Smudge in 3 rounds of CPE, also level 3. No standard for him as he doesn't weave till sept 2010 when they increase the spacing.. and he got 3/3 Qs with three 1st places.. I don't think there was competition. Not many 8" enthusiasts around. Moo was definitely WAY happier to jump 8". I'm glad I dropped him. It isn't supposed to be not fun.

Have to admit it was light and fun and I liked it and will go back as I had no expectations and have nothing invested in CPE.. but it was a lot easier than what we usually play. But it is nice to go back to some easy as Cider is all masters.. and Smudge is getting to be in more masters than not now. Was also nice to be able to have a fault and still qualify in things like standard which you can't in AAC.. And to take home a pile of ribbons is nice I can see why people start their baby dogs here.. also why handlers like to learn here.. It's motivating... 5 fault AAC NQ runs are not..

I almost needed this back in June. Cider and my team work had slipped. And we were consistently NQing for half the trial season. It would have been motivational. I was getting down then.. But we had some great lessons with an awesome judge and turned it back around.

I am fantabulous. See mah loot?

My kids had really already earned their keep.. But out did themselves. Cider got a master jumpers Q and 1st (with competition.. no other 16" dog managed to Q) She was so so so on... Seriously great team work. Better than the great team work we've been having..

It was Smudge's first time out in Master anything. He rocked my socks was really listening and wonderful and also Q'd and got 1st (there are a good number of 10" specials running in masters.. but none at this trial..). Also pleased as I never run him more than 2x a day.. and he ran 4. I feared he might be in pain, or be tired and not care.. he was still raring to play the game. Still was really focused. This puts him at 11 AAC Qs in 2009.. Cider had 11 Qs the last 2 years running.. I find the tie funny.

Iz only a babydog.. I'm more specialz than you..

If I wasn't already pleased as punch.. I'd entered Cider in master gamblers. We needed 3 master standards.. and 3 more master gamblers for a championship.. we are close.. but they are hard to get fault free every time to Q.. And I have to admit Cider and my skills aren't distance ones. so I hate gambles and avoid entering them.. so we only have 1 and it's from over a year ago. We have entered all of 2 or 3 total since.. You need 4 for a gamblers title/ an ATCH.. Pretty sure once she has all 4 we won't keep playing gambles..

Well she rocked my soxs.. and she got the gamble. Beat out dogs for 1st with a Q.. so 2 more gambles to go for us.. and a fantabulous day all around. They each ate 5 'postmen' cookies they were giving out for Qs.. and I celebrated and had wendy's and shared and I bought them an antler to try out.. and I won a cute polar fleece disney blanket for volunteering.. Though I'm starting to get a huge blanket stockpile, it's nice to have a ton of them

Nu uh.. WE are pawesome.. Look at our pile o loot..

Thanks guys I'm uber proud. Was such a low key less stress day I'd like to do their next combined trial.. The CPE was light and no stress and we'd run so much that the AAC felt similar.. I don't get too stressed anymore anyhow, but it was such a great atmosphere..

CONGRATS!

(Ah haven't been on MSN or Chaz because Tmobile decided it'd be cool to have a global outage for their data services for the past three or four days.)

Congratulations! What a day!

While USDAA is my real love, I also do some CPE (basically one person's trials, which are few times a year). I started in it, and really like the people at that trial. But the big benefit I've found, like you, is that as we move up in USDAA, CPE stays a bit easier. It's less stressful for me, and nice to be able to push for more speed or more distance, and know that even if you get one fault, you are still in the running.

I'm really interested in the idea of a combined trial. Same group put on both in the same venue? Our agility club is up in arms right now. We normally run one USDAA trial and one NADAC a year, and a lot of people are pushing to dump NADAC can do a CPE instead.

CPE is Canine Performance Events. Yet another agility venue. It's often considered a nice starting point for dogs, as the scoring is fairly lenient and at level one, there are no weaves or seesaw. They run all the same games as USDAA except pairs, plus do a few other games of their own. Pretty fun classes, and around here at least, a nice environment to trial in.

Yeah BB. Same host. They run 3 day all AAC part of the year. They have like a trial a month.. and about may-oct do half an half trials. Friday is all AAC. Saturday is usually 5 rounds of AAC in the morning, 4 of CPE in the afternoon. Sunday is 4 rounds of CPE in the morning, 5 of AAC in the afternoon.

They've decided due to popularity.. they will have more, but they will run friday and saturday this winter as AAC, and then make sunday combined.

They only problem they may have is that they run all levels of CPE as multiple levels can often run one course..
AAC needs a new course for every level.. So they usually run masters only on CPE days.. Till now we weren't running enough masters to make it worthwhile for us.. We were in some, but it limited our options as to what we could enter..

She either has 1 CPE judge for the weekend, and 1 AAC judge.. or sometimes she uses someone qualified for both. Judge this weekend was duel qualified.

Nowhere else I know of combines trials.. but CPE isn't hugely popular here. Ontario is AAC dominated. So 4 rounds of CPE really does take up 8am-noon only.. There are all CPE trials at two venues further away.. I'm not sure if they get more people or not. I had always wanted to go to a CPE only trial..

I would like to be in a higher level of CPE sadly though and it doesn't work like that. billion Qs to move up.. Could have qualified fullhouse, jumpers, and snooker on the L3, 4, 5, C combined course with higher level times/points. Doubt we'll ever hit enough trials to go too far.. but it was fun and really laid back.. I think it totally made the AAC for the rest of the day laid back.
