When your dog gets so old

He could stay here. I know Hyia would love to see him and we don't do anything for thanksgiving anyway.

Do you think it is because old dogs sleep deeper..or is it just because we have that thought at the back of our minds that it is a possibility?

I think it all is that you have a fear at the back of your mind, knowing that it is a possibility.

I think it's a combo of both.

I will talk to my parents and see how we're getting back to KC; if we're flying it's a moot point. But Foolds has friends back there that he's wanting to go see soon, so we'll see what happens.

I know well the feeling you're having. Every time Bonnie had a seizure, I thought....how much longer until....I've been there too many times. Very hard. I'm sorry Smkie.

I'd say that Mary is sleeping deeper because of her hearing .

I just recently did that with my cat mentioned in my sig. At one point I thought he died because I did not see him moving. He was kind of stiff so I shook him a little and he woke up only to die a few hours later.

I'm so sorry, smkie. I know how this feels, most recently with my rottweiler Rosie who passed away a few years ago. It's awful. Rosie ended up having to be put down but her eyes told us so clearly she was ready to go. If for some reason Mary doesn't go on her own, she will tell you and you'll know.

I hate to say this Smkie , but the only time I left my Bubba was when Amy and I took a 3 days trip . Tom got up and found Bubba still asleep by the window , he went to nudge him to get up and fetch the morning paper with him . Bubba was dead . Too young and no medical problems except a slight murmur . Had I found him , I have no idea what I would have done. When I got home to learn of his passing I was a total basket case !!! I always was able to prepare myself with my other Goldens . Mary has lived happily for more years than you expected . Bitter/sweet !! Except for you , she'd now be a memory . Bless both of you !

SHe would never forgive me if she knew how much i take advantage of that. Sneaking the other two out for a walk (she can't handle the asphalt) or slipping them a goodie she can't have.

I really do believe they sleep deeper and deeper. I think I have seen that in her.

I am sorry for everyone's loss. I don't think you can prepare yourself, I keep trying but i know it is futile. Bronki was only 7, it was so fast and abrupt. HE has cancer..he is gone. THis is so much different because month after month i hope i am doing the right thing. I hope that She doesnt' fall..yet I see her go over a 3 ft embankment like the horse in the race on WILDFIRE with my heart in my throat..yet i don't want to take that away from her either. SHe loved every minute of that day. SO I hope the angels keep watching over her while she over indulges. THat could have gone badly.
