After they can't catch it, deputies shoot frisky pug that stopped traffic on I-90 | The News Tribune - UPDATES | Seattle-Tacoma News, Weather, Sports, Jobs, Homes and Cars | South Puget Sound's Destination

Just a sad story all around. I have mixed feelings about what was and wasn't right. I wasn't there but at the same time don't feel that shooting the dog was probably necessary.

How is discharging a firearm near a busy highway targeting a dog that is running among moving cars any safer?

Just an all round sad situation.

I have caught lots of loose animals before, in many situations, and I can't believe they couldn't catch it somehow... but again I wasn't there.

Couldn't they have stopped traffic for a few minutes? I guess there must've been a reason they didn't.

I guess if they couldn't catch it for whatever reason then they had to shoot it. I would imagine they shot it in a safe area like on the median or something.

I don't think they're evil or heartless for doing what they did. It just seems like such a "fixable" trivial situation...

Sad, just sad ...

They should have called animal control. They know how to deal with those situations and if all else fails they shoot the dog with a tranquilizer dart.

There have been situations similar to this on our local news but they never shot the dog.

I'd like to see the cop who shot the dog explain it to the owners child on how they were justified.

a very tough call, but just to add something personal to the story

my brother was going back home from our family reunion last august and there were two loose dogs on the interstate (I-90 none the less going thru La Crosse, WI). He had slowed like the rest of the cars and was hit from behind by somebody going in excess of 70mph. He was injured, his son had weakness and numbness in his legs for a while after the accident and still can't sit in a car facing forward and freaks out when they slow down to stop at times, and his then pregnant wife was airlifted to a hospital with severe injuries.

Thankfully everyone lived. It's sad, but what was the "right" thing to do here?

That was my thought as well. IDK what the right thing is in this situation. The whole thing is just extremely sad--that must have been a bad day for the cop that actually had to do the deed.

Geez...first a boxer gets tazed by a moron cop TWICE! and now another dog gets shot by one... Where in the world is animal control?! I would be FURIOUS if I saw that, possibly would be arrested. Tranquilizer guns are an amazing invention, too bad everybody seems to have not seen this invention!

am i missing something? i don't remember that article saying the dog belonged to anyone.

while i am sad the dog was shot i can understand why the officers did it. it was rush hour and the dog was causing people to swerve on a busy road during that rush hour. it seems that lately people have been crazier on the roads. and i know they have to worry about people writing/calling in complaining about it i think it is way easier for them to deal with that then with having to deal with the repercussions of allowing the dog to run loose longer and possibly causing a fatal wreck.

The dog was a stray as far as they know.

On the flip side, how would you like to be the cop who explained to a child that daddy isn't coming home because he died in a car accident trying to avoid a dog that you couldn't catch and would not shoot?

It's a hard situation all around.....

Regarding the animal control comments, they may not have AC officers there. I've moved throughout different counties in FL my whole life and have always lived where there was an active AC, but where I currently live, the sheriff's department are who get called out for dog complaints ... there are no AC officers.
