Got them at Petco, large breed industrial clippers. I am thrilled, they did a pretty good job. A major improvement from the side wire cutters we were using before.Now...I need to get Cleo, to the point, where she isn't shaking when we try to do her nails. We managed to get three feet, but she was shaking so hard we stopped to give her a rest. We have no problem with handling her feet, but bring out the nail trimmers and she cowers down and starts shaking like a leaf. It's really upsetting to see a large dog, especially a Fila, so afraid. I hope one day she will be able trust that we are not going to hurt her when we do her nails.

Awesome! Now to find a Petco around here or the brand and model of the clippers

Of course I threw away the packaging and the receipt, because...you know... that would be the correct sensible thing to do.
![]() However I did take a picture of them. The brandname is Bamboo and these have a styptic and file that fits inside the handle. Not really worth bragging about, but it might come in handy if a nail is cut too short. I think I paid less than 20.00. They are hard plastic, but the blade was quite a bit thicker than any I had purchased before, or were at the store. They work and that is all I care about. ![]() ![]() Now, how do I get Cleo over her fear? Apparently she has some very bad memories associated with nail trims. And...I think this is probably the best picture I have ever taken. ![]()

Awesome!
I have no idea about Cleo, though. Kharma's not afraid. None of my three are, they just plain old don't like it, and Kharma's the worst about not wanting her paws messed with in any way, shape or form. She never did, but I was getting her acclimated . . . until someone shot her in the foot. So much for that. ![]() And her talons are like Wolverine's. Harder than any substance known on Earth. But hey, when you figure that the vet had to retrieve shards of the bullet out of her paw -- it shattered when it hit her toe bones. All she got was a fracture.

Oh hey! Those are actually the ones I have.
Believe it or not, I bought mine at Target. Of course, this was ages ago before I brought Auggie home, but I think I have seen them there recently... either there or at PetSmart. I bought them because of the styptic powder holder, actually... it supposedly fits inside the handle of the clippers but I've never stuck it there!

I know what you mean about talons. Brutie has the hardnest nails of any dog I have ever had. They are so thick, and Cleo's are almost as thick as his. Her's probably will be the same as Brutie's when she get older.
I think she must have been abused over her nails, she just cowers and shakes. That's not normal behavior for a dog, most dogs will snap or something, if they have problems with their nails being trimmed. |

No, that's not normal -- and it's sad. She's such a lovely goofball most of the time.
Kharma yanks her paws right out of your hands, then lays her head down on them. If that doesn't deter me enough, she folds them back underneath her chest, lol. She just kicks the mortal crap out of you with those back ones.
