Default Ethoxyquin

When we were at the vet yesterday, I was present when she was discussing Canidae with one of the techs. She'd found out somehow that is ethoxyquin in the fish meal used in Canidae's foods (they're apparently not required to list it). I did a quick Google search and it looks like this has come up a few times before.

I don't know her source and I'm not trying to start an anti-Canidae revolt (), but wanted to put it out there for anyone who feeds this food so they can do their own research.

There's already been an anti-Canidae revolt Thanks for trying to keep us informed though!

It was discussed on another forum this week. Seems the Canadian foods are safe.. but a lot of foods have it hidden where you wouldn't know it. Too much to worry about in kibble these days, oi.

Yeah I remember reading about that concerning Taste of the Wild... kind of ticked me off, when I had hamsters and rats I made sure I fed them foods without ethoxyquin, and then here I was giving it to my dog and I had no idea.

As far as I know, fish meal brought into the US via ship is required by law to be preserved by ethoxyquin. Because the pet food company did not add it themselves, they are not required to disclose that on their ingredients list. There are alternate ways of bringing fish meal in aside from ship, but many companies do not want to go through the hassle and extra costs in doing so. To do so would mean applying for a permit from the Coast Guard...some companies such as Wellness and Eagle Pack do apply.
