Angry Why dont people fea their dogs? WTF?

I just recently moved to flea country (oklahoma). I came from Washington which also has fleas but its NOTHING compared to out here. I've walked into peoples homes and literally had 5 fleas jumping all over my ankles.

One woman has two chihuahuas who are scratching so bad that they have open wounds and hair loss. You can clearly see the fleas running around their skin.

Flea collars do not work, people. That spray you buy in a can at walmart does not work either. Hell, I doubt the flea drops at walmart work. Powder does not work. Flea shampoo does not work. These things MAY work to an extent, but they just arent GOOD ENOUGH.

All you have to do is take a trip to the vets office and buy some revolution or something similar. Its not that hard, but apparently people dont want to spend 20 bucks a month on flea meds for one of their dogs.

One lady says it costs her 40 bucks a month, so she just lets her dogs suffer.

I am just annoyed and venting...

Revolution does do a good job controlling fleas and it doesn't wash off. I used it but now I'm more concerned about what effects it will have in the long term with Molly. I'm worried why it's so efficient - scares me. I'm taking my chances right now. I don't think I could live in the conditions you described - I think I would cave and treat the animals and home.

i spend the 40 a month on frontline, and advantix to only have fleas!!!

here we have to treat animals, yard, house, and car on a regular basis. and i still can always find a few fleas on my critters.

actually is 40 for the dogs
another 20 for the cat
and another 20 for the rabbits (advantage for cats works for rabbits and is safe)

80 bucks a month only to still have fleas.

Yes, revolution must be some potent stuff. I use it on my 3 pound chihuahua and have not seen any adverse affects. I wish I could go without using any chemicals, but the fleas here are just everywhere.

In Arizona, fleas were so rare that I never used any kind of flea products.

Revolution also prevents ear mites, which are hell here as well.

Yah, sadly Frontline doesn't always work. I have a few clients battling fleas and I know they use Frontline. One has even bought it through me and also got the Frontline spray, the one you can directly spay on the dog. For some reason some seem resistant to it. One of my client's dog has such a big infestation, I feel so bad for her. She has her on Frontline, brought her in twice to get her flea dipped, at the same time her home was bombed and still she has problems. I know there's a pill out there that you can get from your vet, normally I'm hesitant with such a thing but for these specific incident I would look in on it.

Some dogs are flea magnets.

But there are some people that just don't seem to care about fleas, that would gross me out.

Its a wonder if fleas are starting to become immune to a lot of these flea products. Revolution has worked very well... never found a single flea, so I am sticking with it.
