Default 14 Month Jail Sentence for Vicious Dog Owner

When I read this article about a 14 month jail sentence with 4 years probation for owning a vicious dog I thought it was pretty harsh.

However, if you read about the background of the case it seems far too light a sentence to me.

This owner was clearly a menace, and had his neighbors terrorized for years. A dog with the size and power of a bull mastiff/boxer mix who was obviously encouraged by his owner to be aggressive would frighten any sane person. It is only blind luck that no one was killed.

It is NUTS that Firestone Colorado had not done something about this psycho earlier.

Actually I am not surprised that they did just call it a pit bull and push for more bans.

or

I was surprised they didn't let the owner go scott free and then star banning Bull Mastiffs.

I saw that on the news I think...and i don't blame the local residents for wanting to carry guns to protect themselves, jeez...sorry but if those dogs were so vicious that animal control needed to use a tranquilizer to obtain them, they should have been temperament tested...and I hope that dog is put down. Sad as that may be, obviously it's dangerous, and rather than let it go about and kill someone, it needs to be put down.

Stories like these are so horrible, I can't believe how awful people can be to each other and their animals

Thats crazy, but this part I dont agree with

Quote:
Jackie Riley, David Riley’s mother, has also been cited for having vicious dogs in the past, and one of her dogs killed a neighbor’s cat.
I am sure a lot of us would face this same situation if a stray cat came into our yards. My german shepherd killed two of MY OWN cats in freak accidents. JUST because a dog does this does not make it dangerous. My dog also loves children and people, so it's hard to say just because a dog kills a cat, theyre dangerous.

How sad and unfortunate and his own aunt?! He is just another horrible/irresponsible owner of a powerful breed, or any breed for that matter. This crap makes more people scared to death of big/powerful dogs.
