I am so blessed to have been mentored and employed by veterinarians that truly care about about their clients. The veterinarian I am referring to IS a surgeon that performs the TPLO surgeries. He always recommends it to clients as a last resort, and gives them all the details and statistics about recovery, complications etc.

Interesting indeed. When Virgo tore her ACL, I was freaking out because there was no way on earth she would have made it through the recovery period without being doped to the gills. That wouldn't have been fair to anyone. What ended up happening was she went to live with ILoveMyLab shortly after I had her checked out and I relayed what my vet had said about just not doing the surgery. Her vet concurred and ILML put her on some good glucosamine/chondroitin supplements and Virgo doesn't limp at all anymore!

Thanks for posting a good article. It is exactly the same for human patients. Great doctors and vets will tell you the pluses and minuses of all the alternatives..not just what they recommend.
