Just the pick-me-up I needed

Had a wonderful after-noon with my girls I havent been able to do much with kacee since my surgery, and I havent been able to go to our favorite place since strawberry season started, but thats dying off now and we can go back, in the late evenings of course. When there is no traffic.

Of course kacee couldn't be on leash, so she walked the higway off leash (dont worry, NFLD hiighways are different then other places. We saw maybe 4 cars?) It so nice to be able to trust a dog so much. She didnt leave my side. Once we got to the strawberry farm I explained to the owner out front who was selling berries why we were there. And why the dog was offleash. And he understood. I knew he wouldnt mind. He knows us and know wwe frequent his farm in the down seasons. The road to the strwberry fields is what we are interested in. Its a dirt road that is surrounded by forest. On both sides of the narrow road there are small streams. You cant see them because the bush is so think. But you can hear them.
Being surrounded by the thick, lush greenary is just what I needed. And some alone time with my girls and watching them have fun as well..

Both dogs are allowed off leash here. Kacee runs off the trail and runs on the side in the streams. I cant see her but i can see the alders and bushes move with her. Keely isnt allowed off the road so she runs along side of kacee on the road. Keely gets surpirsed when kacee pops out of the bushes
Sometimes im nervous. Because the bear and coyote population is booming. But I can just always worry about the "What ifs " and not allow my girls to not have fun. Keely stays close by, but kacee runs thru the woods. I LOVE watching her be Free. Sometimes I envy her. I wish I could be her for a few minutes and run thru the thick forest dodging the trees.. Keely chases kacee, until kacee gets to far away from me keely stops and waits. I find this place is the best to practice recall, no better time to practice then when it actually matter eh? ..

We finally got to out destination... A field that is no longer used for strawberries. Its just full of the greenest grass ive ever seen.. A nice place for the dogs to play. and case each other.

Unfortunatly tat wasnt the case today. We got to the field and a Small Hawk dove right at kacee.. I paniced and called keely back and heald onto her. I couldnt help but admire the hawk.. It was diving at me and kacee and doing some really cool acrobatics It was beautiful. But It scared the crap out of me. What if keely didnt have a *semi* solid recall? What would have happened? It was pretty small, and i cant figure out how these not-so-big creatures could pick up a 9 lb dog.. but they can. So we left. But I heald keely for a while.. She didnt mind but when we got far enough away i let her down, but made both dogs stay close. I didnt like te little hawk incident.. It made me think way to much. Sometimes I HATE living here. Its really beautiful.. The island is covered in beauty and forest but with that forest comes danger.. Sometimes I dislike having a small dog because of the worry. But what can I do? Shes small but she still needs to be a dog and have freedom *Sigh* The walk back was good but i was more aware of what was going on around me.

Kacee went off in the woods and I was calling her and she owuldnt come back.. She went off on the left side of the road and I heard a Loud splashing coming from the RIGHT side of the road.. Sounded like a dog running thru water. I got a mettalic tast in my mouth because then I knew it was a coyote There was a coyote RIGHT next to me and I didnt know what I was going to do. I thought about running but remembered kacee was still gone. And I couldnt just leave her. If she had come out of the woods I would have seen her.

Then I heard it. The coyote shook and I heard its tags Kacee went thru a Tunnel under the road that lets water run thru and she came bounding out of the other side of the woods Keely was looking for her on the left side and she came bounding out of the right side and spooked keely. She growled and everything.

Anyways. I know thats long.. REALLY long but I had a great night. I dont expect many to read it because of the length. But I feel good.

Im seriously thinking that the thought of loosing kacee if her owners move has triggered my depression.

Tomorrow I might go again and bring my cam Take some videos and picturesif anybody is interested.

Besides the scares, it sounds like fun. I would love to see pictures too. Did you talk to her owners about you keeping her?

Ive been making it very clear how much both myself and keely love her and I am waiting for the right time. Its not confirmed yet..I dunno, the more tiem i speand with her the more stressed I get about potentially loosing her. It would be like loosing apart of my heart and soul.. I jokingly said " You could just leave her with me " to see what they'd say but they just chuckled. *sigh*
