I'm trying to teach myself what all the Rally O signs mean because I want to practice them with Phoebe in case I ever decide to actually do Rally-O. I am having trouble understanding many of them so thought I'd post some questions here and see if you guys can help me. I was trying to find a video of spiral left or spiral right and found this: YouTube - Mistys Rally-O
One of the last things she does appears to be what I think is spiral left, I just wanted to make sure that that is actually how it is done in AKC Rally-O before I start practicing that way. She walks all the way down around the three posts, then goes back down around two and then back down around one. I'll keep posting with questions or video confirmations like this, thanks!!

Yes. The AKC signs with descriptions has a nice little diagram showing the path of you and the dog a well as the rally sign that's helpful, but you got it. http://www.akc.org/pdfs/about/board_...egulations.pdf

Thanks, and for the straight figure 8 you should end at the same post you started at (you weave through and then weave back making two figure 8's and ending at the starting point)?

Yes. You end where you start but exit the other side of the pylon.. Everything I've ever done in CARO (and from skimming the AKC regs it looks the same) is usually entered into from the left.. weaving, figure 8s.. but yeah by doing the exercise you will end up going back in the direction you've come from, just on the other side of the pylon from where you started.

Alright I don't understand the Left About turn at all. All I know is I'm doing an about turn to the left and for some reason my dog is not going to be staying at heel while I turn.

try this for the left about turn YouTube - #29 Rally Left about Turn
like she says in the video, it's not hard to do, just hard to describe.

It's a schutzhund turn.. you both turn away from each other. I like it, it's a fun move, but yes it makes it difficult as a newbie to the sport that suddenly your dog is out of heel.
This is Cider and I. Right off the bat in the beginning is a left about turn YouTube - Cider Rally Obedience I also like the CARO sign for it as it shows the path of the dog and the handler well

Thank you both for the videos, that is very helpful and I understand that now, it is very hard to describe but simple enough.
For the Halt-about "U" turn-forward and halt-about turn right-forward is the dog's butt allowed to come off the ground when you turn? I wasn't sure if the dog had to swivel on his bum or if he sat then stood and turned or something else.

The AKC description reads the same way the CARO one does.. Dog sits, then stands and you pivot a 180 together and walk on in heel.
