Yes, I'm sure one of the breeders will come along and explain it better, but basically a dog releases eggs over a period of 3? days, which is why most breeders will stand a stud for three days in a row, to give the best chance of the breeding taking. Some breeders are exploiting this to use multiple champions in one litter and using DNA testing to cement the pedigrees. This is also why you can end up with "runts" that will then end up the same size as the rest of the litter...they were usually the last ones conceived and thus were born a few days early.

I'm going to go take Puck for a quick walk before it starts raining again, I will check this when I get back.

I just want an idea so I'll know how big he'll get, not that it matters but I just like an idea Thanks everyone!

Believe it or not, I see Jack Russell, especially in the first two pictures, as well as Dachshund. He really is a looker!

Ears and curled tail does look like a Chihuahua. I have a 5lbs one that is brown. I definitely see Dachshund. Where do you think the blue eyes come from?

I go to dogs park a lot with my larger mixed dog. My Chihuahua goes to "meetups" but not dog parks. There are dog parks with small dog areas he just doesn't like it as much as my mix so I just stick with the meetup once a month.

I had no idea. That's just crazy.

Is that true for other animals?

I don't mean to thread jack I just really didn't know that. Why didn't they ever teach me that in biology class? It should have at least been mentioned in Animal Physiology! Maybe I fell asleep that day.
Yes, dogs can have multiple fathers. I'm not sure as to other animals, cats maybe? But dogs for sure can.

both Dachshunds and Chihuahuas can have blue eyes

I definitely see Doxie and perhaps some Basset (the what appears to be thicker bone, the lemon color on the ears...plus his expression in the first pic reminds me of my late Basset girl) and probably a third breed thrown in.

He's a handsome boy

Any animal that can carry more than one baby at a time can have multiple fathers for the litter.

Once on the news there was a woman who had fraternal twins, and didn't know who the father was. Paternity testing revealed one twin was fathered by one man, and the other twin fathered by another man she had been with (both on the same night at the same party)

Your dog is gorgeous though. Chihuahuas come in merle and can have blue eyes too. That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw him, chi X dachshund, but who knows for sure.
