Default Dog Breed Guesses

I adopted Puck on July 19, 2009, a Sunday, from Wayside Waifs in Kansas City, MO. He is completely deaf, and has a chance of going blind in the future - however I absolutely adore this little man. He has been amazing, and is already learning how to sit by hand signals - I just wanted some guesses on possible breed mixes? He is my lovely little mutt, all they knew for sure was that his mother was a chihuahua as his entire litter was dumped with Wayside Waifs by the owner of the mother dog.

I cannot wait to get some classes going with him at Wayside Waifs, and we are looking to start going to dog parks after some puppy classes. He's already shown me so much in one day. Anyways, I just want some breed guess on him - I personally feel like he has Dachshund in him, and my neighbor believes Basset Hound.

Could be an over-sized double dapple (dapple to dapple) mini Dachshund. Are they sure mom was a Chihuahua?

I was thinking double merle-ing caused his deafness which (I think but I'm not sure) is similar or the same as dappling in doxies. He's gorgeous though

Well he came in with siblings, and the shelter said that his two brothers look completely different and his sister looks like a pure Chihuahua. They said one sibling looked like a short Wemiernaer(sp?) , and the other looked like a Basset Hound... then again they said they all look like you could see a million different dogs and then no dogs at all. They more than likely all have different dads though.

I have more pictures of him, if anyone want to see!!

- Brother #1 was partially deaf and blind in one eye
- Brother #2 was completely blind but could hear
- Sister was completely blind AND deaf
- Puck is just deaf as of right now

The shelter said he was born on 3/15/2009.

Litters can have more than one dad, so it's hard to go by what the littermates look like.

I see doxie/basset myself, though it's possible the father was more than one breed as well.

Are you serious?!

I had no idea. That's just crazy.

Is that true for other animals?

I don't mean to thread jack I just really didn't know that. Why didn't they ever teach me that in biology class? It should have at least been mentioned in Animal Physiology! Maybe I fell asleep that day.
