Default No Kill Shelter for a year now needs help to not have to kill animals they love KY

UPDATE JULY 12, 2009 I am crossposting. If you can help this shelter that has not killed one animal in a year that now finds itself innundated with animals and is being ordered by the county to decrease the numbers, please
please write or phone.

Shelbyville KY

"Hello All,

Intakes are through the roof. What people are not admitting to giving up on are coming in as strays at ALARMING numbers.

Please look at the URGENT list at the shelter. These babies are the ones that have been here the longest. We will have to euthanize because of space if these pups are not rescued or adopted. Please help me say goodbye to them with a smile instead of a tear. "

Max

Max is yet another beagle left at the shelter. He is a full grown young beagle who shares a kennel with Champ. These two beagles get along great and can go together as " a pair". He is an awesome beagle who is in a FULL shelter!
Thanks to the No-Kill Mission, Max has been fully vetted - neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for heartworms....now he just needs a forever home!!

(Max’s friend, Champ)

Champ is truly a champ. He is a middle aged beagle in a shelter with so many other beagles but he is happy and very positive that he is the best beagle here! He is healthy aka "plump". He gets along with his kennel mate Max and hasn't met a stranger yet.
Thanks to the No-Kill Mission, Champ has been neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for heartworms.

Niki

Thanks to the No-Kill Mission, Niki is fully vetted and heartworm tested negative!

Lucky and Gordon

Thanks to the No-Kill Mission, Niki is fully vetted and heartworm tested negative!

Lonnie

Buckshot

Alfred aka Buckshot has had a rough life...when he was taken for vetting, it was discovered that he had buckshot in the worst possible place for a male dog. Alfred was neutered, vaccinated and heartworm tested negative thanks to the No-Kill Mission

Here are a few whose lives are on the line
Mica and Penny

Both ready to go thanks to the No-Kill Mission

Gretta

She’s ready to go too.

So many more sweet faces hoping for new homes.

Read more and see the cats. There are over 100 that need ressue or adoption.

What gets me is that people know this shelter has not killed for a year and so they bring their pets there and now the shelter may be forced to kill . It is so sad. Why are people dumping pets in such large numbers daily? I don't think it is only the bad economy. I hope Shelby can continue their no kill mission but at this rate it doesn' look good. Everyone pays a huge price for not spaying and neutering and for the irresponisbloty of owners who could keep pets but do not want to.

Yes it really is the economy. Kentucky does not have many jobs. And more and more are lost everyday. I've gone 2 years without a raise because of the economy. And I'm lucky that my department is needed enough to not have layoffs.

Shelbyville is about 45 mins away from me. Very sad to see. I know they do a lot to try to adopt their pets. Unfortunately its just as bad if not worse at my own local shelter.

It is sad and disturbing to hear this. I feel for anyone whose life has been shattered due to job loss. I really hope the new president knows what he is doing.
Zoos are also being affected. I am not a lover of zoos but the Franklin Park Zoo in Mass may have to close because the state has cut funds and the Mass Society of Prevention to Animals had to close 3 shelters in the state.

What is the name of your local shelter? I can post some animals on my blog.
I always try to believe that when things are at their lowest at some point the direction has to shift back to a more positive path. WE live in very difficult times for animals and people.
