So Juno is a couple days shy of 15 weeks old, weighs about 17 pounds, and I'm feeding her 2 cups of Taste of the Wild a day. Now I know it's not a science and you guys can't tell me the exact amount she should be getting, but does that sound about right?
We were at the vet earlier in the week and he thinks she should be getting 1.5 cups a day--and when we were in the time before that and I was feeding her 1.5 cups a day, he thought she should only be getting 1 cup. BUT he likes the weight she's at, you can feel/see her ribs. But he said something about too much food not necessarily making her overweight, but we might be noticing it in how much she poops. Which would make more sense to me if she were on a food full of fillers, but I don't know. So now my mom keeps telling me I need to cut back on her food, but I'm afraid to do that if 2 cups is really what she needs. I don't want to experiment with it and have her lose weight or go hungry, when IMO, she's fine right now. What do you think? |

That's about how much my boy was fed at that age and even at 8mo that's still what he's eating - right at 2 cups per day. Kes was 18lbs at 16 weeks and is 32lbs at 8mo now.

Sounds right to me.
Well it also depends on your dog. Is she lazy or active ? |

If she's looking and feeling good on two cups a day, then I see no reason to lower her intake. Ripley's eating 4 1/2 cups a day (at 12wks almost) , which some people think is a lot, but that's what he needs.

I see no problem with that amount if your happy with the way she looks.

All right, thanks. I needed someone else on my side to make me feel okay lol.
She's definitely not lazy--I wish! She's go, go, go all day long. I had actually been considering increasing her food, so I was a little puzzled at the recommendation of decreasing it. Especially since 1/2 a cup is a pretty significant amount when you're not dealing with that much food in the first place! |

My pups (6 and 10lbs) get about a cup of food a day. But if they're looking kinda thin or chunky I will reduce/increase their food that day.

Wow, I'm surprised at how much your dogs eat!
Lucy's 25 lbs or so, and suuuuuuuper active, but she only needs 3/4 cups a day. Different metabolisms, I suppose. (Also could be that she's not growing anymore) She tries to tell me she's hungry all the time though! |

Growing dogs get alot more food.
Kiba used to get about 1/2 cup or so of kibble a day (she's 19 lbs now and on a diet) Stryder will get anywheres from 3/4-1c a day. But he also has a faster metabolism.

My 3 pounds puppy eats 1 cup a day and the vet really wants her to eat more but I think she is looking good so I am not going to increase her now.
The rest of the dogs (5, 6, & 7 pounds) eat 1/2 cup per day. They all usually end up with some extras... a few bites of chicken or beef, treats, etc. |
