Do any of you guys have a suggestion for helping train my dog to walk off-leash?
Just earlier I went out with treats and she would come back when I called. But she is very very very food oriented. She will do ANYTHING for food it seems. Unless if there is a person or animal in sight. Any tips?? Thanks! Oh, she is slightly overweight as well, so I don't want her to get too much food in her. |

Where are you trying to walk her off leash?
As for using treats, if you are training with food then you offer less dinner. Give us more info on to what you want to do and why etc and we will likely be able to be more of a help. |

I guess mostly just so she will be attentive, and come when I call. She isn't a puppy, more middle aged and I am the only one in my family who will train her. We have a large area of fields near our house, and I want her to be able to run around, but she will just follow a scent and off she goes. She usually looks back at us when she used to run out of our gate, just waiting for us to follow her and go on a walk.

We know she has cocker spaniel. And we are thinking probably lab cause she is a decent size dog. She was a stray on the streets near us.

Does the dog know any commands ?
You can get a long leash and teacher her the recall command. |

She does, but she doesn't do them readily. Thanks for the idea of the recall. That should work. Can't wait to try it our tomorrow.

There are several recent threads about loose leash walking that should be helpful.
