Default "I Think You Should Give Him Away"

I am so mad right now!!!

My brother and his gf were over alittle bit ago and we were talking about how I dodged a bullet with the whole couch thing, and how lucky I was to get to keep all three dogs.

Then my brothers gf goes "I don't know, I think you should give him away" she says pointing at Sawyer sitting in front of her.

To which I replied "No never. As long as I can help it I will never rehomed Sawyer". And then she asked me why!

She generally does not like Sawyer. Really she doesent like Keiko either. Because they are big puppies and like to lick your leg or hand when they want your attention. Which this grosses her out. And the general excitement the dogs have when they visit. It just annoys her. Especially with Sawyer though honestly he has done alot better.

So I answered to her that the dogs are not throw away items to me. They are my "kids" and im not going to abandon them.

She didn't say anymore about it after that.

I just hate it. I used to always hear when Sawyer was a puppy that I shouldn't keep him because he was a Lab and I was mauled by two Labs. So I had family members sure he would turn on me. Others just knew how Labs mature and how they are tough to raise. But I knew what I was in for and never budged.

I hate people looking at Sawyer like he is the root of all evil or something. Yes he is a young active Lab. Yes he's going to be VERY excited to see company walk in the door. He won't jump on you but he is glued to your side for the first half hour. Yes he loves to give kisses. And SHOCKER SHOCKER when you initiate rough play with him, he's going to play rough with you! And no he's not gonna understand why your yelling at him when your sick of the game. You want to how or bark in his face? Well be prepared to be bopped in the face with a Lab skull.

He's not a bad dog. He is a really good smart dog who has the softest heart on the planet. And when people point at him and say "Problem child, must rehome" it just drives me insane.

Next time the gf irritates you look at your brother and point to his gf and say, "You know, isn't it time you gave this one away?"

I'm sorry though. When jack had his elbow dysplasia and needed surgery DH's coworkers told him, "You know, it would be cheaper to just buy her a new dog." Lots of people don't understand young labs. If the inn were not already currently full I'd offer to take Sawyer--I've fallen in love with him.

LOL I really should!

And most people really don't understand young Labs. Thats why 99% of the ads on Craigslist are for 6 month-1 year old Labs. People don't understand what they are getting into.

Its also hard for alot of house guests to understand he is not excited like that 24/7. On a rainy day he can nap........erm recharge all day.

Did you punch him one? I love Sawyer too. All of our labs have a special place in my heart.

Isn't this the brother and his gf that took on that little pup you recently found? Is she just gonna get rid of it when it gets big and excited? :/

They say that labs make fantastic 3 year old dogs--lol. it does break my heart how many adolescent labs there are out there that people are giving up. There was a temp at our work that had an 8 month old black lab she got from a pet store. She was ALWAYS complaining about the dog. He eats this, he chews that up, he tries to dig out of his crate, he jumps---well, the dog literally was let out to go potty and then brought back inside immediately an that was the ONLY exercise the dog go. No training, not walks, no romps, no fetch, nothing--and she wondered why the dog was frustrated. Then she was convinced that this all would magically be fixed when he was neutered. Right. It really was all I could do not to just offer her $20 or something to take the dog off her hands.

Nope. My brother already told her that she would go before the puppy goes.

It's so heartbreaking, that's EXACTLY what I've been seeing lately on our local craiglist..... just ad after ad for young labs
