My two golden retrievers (9 mos) have very thick, long coats. Should I clip their coats some for summer? I keep them combed at least 2 x per week and bathe them 1 x week. They are outside dogs and we live in the country. They go swimming in my nearest neighbor's lake almost daily.
Should I help them stay a little cooler with a haricut? |

It really won't keep them cool . They need their undercoat .

What Grammy said.
Try taking thinning shears to there coats. Don't shave!

My mother in law has an outdoor golden living in Tucson where it gets 115 in the summer. Not recommending that you keep your dog out when it's that hot, but her's has never seemed uncomfortable due to the heat. Having a kiddie pool they can wade/lay in will do much more to keep them cool than removing hair.
