how to find a bird breeder?

I am looking for a cockateil breeder in Louisiana and need help. I dont know where to start.

Thanks Fran, your googlefoo is rocking. I was getting Australian breeders for some reason. Has anyone ever shipped a bird? I am looking for a white faced pied pair. Hand raised and tame.

For birds.. you want to make sure they are handfed/handtamed and TOTALLY weaned (Do NOT listen to any breeder that says you need to hand-feed yourself. Handfeeding baby birds is a complicated ordeal), banded, social and tame.

If possible, I would also go visit. Same things you would check for a dog breeder. Things are clean, animals well taken care of and VET CHECKS.

EDIT: just saw your post. A pet store I used to work with got birds through delta quite a bit. It's a pretty safe process.

Color is the last thing you need to be looking for. Especially with white faced and charcoal pieds. They are often highly inbred and far from healthy.

Why? I ask because while I was raised around birds, they where obtained by my Nan and
I was a kid. What should I be looking for espescially. What type of health problems are associated with the color? The mutations bumfuggle me.




Fran , I am defiantly wanting to go look, birds health and socialability are most important.
