I am part of a program that tutors kids from an underprivileged area. The girl I tutor is going into 4th grade and this will be the second year I tutor her. The last year I tutored with my friend who is the one I've mentioned lately that has a brain tumor and is up north getting treated with chemo, radiation, and physical therapy to help him regain a lot of his motor and speech skills he's lost. Needless to say, he's not going to tutor this next year.
My girl had been very concerned that we would tutor her again next year. It was something she was asking all the time and of course we both said yes. My partner couldn't be there the end of the year party because he was at the hospital getting an MRI. I didn't know that at the time so just told the girl he had army stuff to do (I thought that was what was going on because he told me he was at the fort). Found out the next week he had cancer.
So what should I do? Should I just show up on my own and just make up some story? I know she will ask. Talk to the person running the tutor group? Talk to her teacher or her teacher from last year?
