My Siberian Husky was because we were in a pet store buying some fish food (back in the days when I would still shop in pet stores that sell animals) and it was full of yappy, hyper puppies. There were two Siberian pups there as well and they were just so different to the little yappy dogs, they were so much more graceful, inquisitive without being hyper, there was something striking about them that really caught my eye.

We went home and researched the breed to learn more and I fell in love with them, I am a big Spitz breed fan. I love that Sibes are big but not too big, they are clean dogs who don't need a lot of food, they are independent and smart and like to be around you but aren't clingy velcro dogs. They can also be a bit of a challenge to train which suits me because I like a challenge and would get bored with an 'easy' dog. I think they are the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen :p

My Siberian is also SO easy to live with. He's not clingy, he likes his own company, but he also likes to be with you. I like active dogs, and he will take as much exercise as I give him but won't go nuts without a walk. He's both very food and prey driven which makes training easy. He's calm and has a beautiful nature, we call him a gentleman because that's just what he is. He's also hilarious and SO smart and will never let you forget it if you let him get away with something just once ;)

My beagle came along because we wanted a smaller dog that could keep up with our Siberian. So I wanted a smaller but solid active dog. I spent six months researching breeds before deciding on a beagle. Daisy ticks all my boxes - right size, short coat, active, fun to train, enjoys being with us without being clingy. And cute :D Beagles are a real Goldilocks dog for me, not too big, not too small, juuuuuust right :D

Daisy has also been the first dog I've done dog sports with, so that's been a fun learning curve especially as I love a challenge. I've learnt so much with her and I am really glad I started out with a "non-traditional" breed as it's taught me SO much and I don't think I would have learnt anywhere near what I have had I picked another breed.

I will definitely own both my breeds again, although I will probably only have one Siberian at a time. I am torn between getting another beagle or getting something different that's a bit drivier (although my beagle definitely doesn't lack drive) that's more of a working dog - GSD, Dobie, even a Toller or a Finnish Lapphund for a spitz that's a bit different. But the part of me that can't resist a challenge wants to get another beagle pup to start training the way I do now from day one instead of starting when my dog is two years old.... I am sure I will keep changing my mind until the time comes LOL!

I didn't. I really wanted a dog of my own and I was told that if I could prove to my mum and dad that I was capable of looking after one then they would get me a puppy.

I wanted a labrador because I had been raised with them and thought they were the perfect dog for me. We had 2 at the time but they were definitely my dads dogs. It was agreed that I could get a lab puppy. Then my mum and dad took me to see a litter of "labs". We got there and I saw the springer puppies and fell in love. We ended up with Taz that night.

It was a bad idea. Taz is the opposite of what I want in a dog. He's a good 'family dog' though which was what my parents were going for.

Fudge was the result of a joke phone call between my mum and dad that my sister and I overheard. We had had Taz for a week and we had forced my dad to let him sleep inside (he thinks dogs belong outside.Guess he should have thought of that before letting me get a puppy :lol-sign: ) and my mum called him as a joke to say that a friend from work had an accidental litter and Taz was lonely inside on his own so we should get him a companion. My dad had his phone on loudspeaker. Fudge came home that night.

Fudge isn't the right dog for our family but he's the right dog for me (which is strange because offically he was supposed to be my sisters). He's the reason I started really working with the dogs. He had quite a few issues due to his upbringing and my poor socialisation. I really had to work hard with him to make him the dog he is now where I can take him almost anywhere and not worry (much).

The reason we got Scamp was because Fudge and I had so obviously bonded because I had to train him and feed and excercise him etc because she didn't. My parents thought she would do more with a smaller dog. Along came Scamp as a christmas present. And exactly as I had predicted a week after she got him she was bored and I had another dog. I didn't want him. I didn't like JRTs. As far as I was concerned they were nasty, yappy hyperactive little dogs. Now I want another, well bred, one ;)

I "decided" on Pit Bulls.

When I got my first apartment, I wanted to make sure I could handle a dog, so instead of adopting or buying one I told my boyfriend I was taking one of his poor, sad, kenneled hunting dogs. Out of 5 beagles and a basset, I chose the basset because I thought she might have less of an energy requirement. Daisy is my heart dog, and while I'm not sure I'll ever own another basset, she has been the best dog in the world.

Eerie came into our lives through an internet classified ad on coonhound central. She was 6 months old, and PlottDaddy had never been allowed a big dog (only beagles, and he'd always wanted a coonhound). After running over the scenario repeatedly, we were in OH visiting my family and called the breeder the night before we were to leave (she's located in IN). Eer was still available, so we drove out the next morning and got her. That was the beginning of the Plott obsession.

Autumn was an impulse buy for $15 at a dog show. I figured I could afford another dog, and what trouble could a feist really be? I was mildly disappointed when she outgrew my purse. I have never for a second regretted Autumn - she's the most personable dog I've ever met.

When I finally did find my perfect pit bull, she turned out to be a poor match for the other dogs :( She is, however, now in a loving one-dog household where she is spoiled rotten and I still visit & baby sit :)
