I'm really hoping this is the right spot - I just made this account to see if I could get some advice. If it's not correct please tell me where I can post this.
My 6 mo. Jack Russell Terrier has been potty trained for the last few months since we brought her home. We have a doggy door for her to use so there is no problem there. Within the last few days she has started peeing and pooping inside the house. I understand at about 6 months they can get their first period/cycle. Would this be a behavior issue associated with it because she is not yet fixed. We've only caught her once and we tried to get her outside but she came in to finish. What do we do?!
We've tried mildly scolding her but not rubbing her face in it, putting her outside as described above but she came in to finish instead of going back out, and simply ignoring it and cleaning it up like it was an accident.
When she does this she will look at her mess and duck down and walk around it, very clearly knowing she did something wrong but we can't get her to stop. Yesterday I was doing my makeup and getting ready when I heard a sound that sounded like water being poured into the sink from a full cup - she was peeing right there! Only thing is she wasn't squatting - she was standing there like she could walk off at any moment and I yelled "POPPY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" (it was the first time I'd caught her in the act) and went to reach for her back end to try and stop her, but she just looked at me like she didn't realize why I was grabbing her or what I was yelling at her for.
I'm going to talk to a vet tomorrow - they were closed for the holiday today but I'm just hoping either someone can back me up on a behavior issue or give me some advice. I've also read this could be a UTI but I'm not sure.
