Hey, guys. If anyone knows of a long distance rescue, or a rescue by Mississippi, could you please tell me about it? One that you're famliar with? Here are some dogs that are about to be put to sleep in my local shelter that I fell in love with last time I volunteered there:

Could you please post these guys on any other websites you are on? Maybe Chazzers could save some of them!

Bump. :)

They all look like wonderful dogs who ALL should be in loving homes, but that mama dog who took in extra pups . . . now she especially should never have to face the needle :(

:( It's so easy for us that don't work with them every day to just push it to the back of our mind. I have tears just thinking of them.

That last little girl looks JUST exactly like my aunties dog when I was growing up.........her name was Gidget, best little dog you ever saw.

Good news: I think I just found a rescue for the little fiest mix =).

And I agree with you, Renee. She had enough love in her heart to take care of those puppies for us, we really need to make sure we find a home for her.

Any chance that if someone were to donate the adoption fee - or part of it - for a particular dog the shelter would give the dog a reprieve? I've done that at the shelter here a few times.

Sadly, they won't let that, as I've seen someone try. I suppose the reason for this is that we get about 45-60 animals a day. We don't have the room to hold animals any longer than neccessary, so if they don't get adopted or fostered out quickly, they're on the euthanasia list the next week =(. It's a very unorganized shelter, one of those "if you have 60 bucks you get anything you want" kind of place, but we just got a new manager, so that might be a possibility in the future.

That Mama dog... oh wow. I hope things work out for that girl. She's so special. Makes me want to cry just thinking about it.

I agree, I never go in there without seeing at least five dogs that I would love to have. But you would be surprised how little adoptions we get and how uninformed people are around here. We recently had a public meeting on the overpopulation issue, and half of the people didn't know animals were put down in shelters.

Does that shelter do any transports out of state? My friend's rescue gets contacted regularly by southern shelters looking to send dogs up north. Probably over 90% of the dogs she places come in on transports from the south. Most of our local humane societies also transport dogs in. I think it is generally the "outgoing" shelter that makes contact with other shelters to take dogs in.
