Maybe they mean "Bagle" as in the Beagle/Bassett designer dog?

A buddy of mine in high school used to call Beagles "bagels." When my dog is curled up, I call her a cinnamon donut. LOL!

We know a couple with a dog, we call him a "bagel." He is a beagle and basset hound mutt. He's absolutely adorable!
