I have a color question! I originally thought Dobby was a solid black cat. The older he gets the more evident it's getting that he has stripes. You can see the quite well in the light although they don't photograph well. However he doesn't appear to have the typical tabby 'm' on his forehead. So my question is, would he be considered a black tabby or a solid black?

I recently heard of something called "ghost tabby." Not really sure though since I don't know anything about it.

That's an old picture, but you can see some of the striping on his leg there. His striping has gotten more evident as he's gotten older, I need to get some new pictures but like I said it doesn't photograph super well. From my limited understanding of cat colors though he can't be a true black smoke because the base of his hair is gray and not white? A few other cat people have mentioned that he might have ghost markings?

Here are a few threads that show my boy and his progression. He has gotten considerably darker as he has gotten bigger. He is still young. You can see his striping moreso on his legs, chest, belly and you can see the striping on his sides if his body is turned certain ways. His coat is mainly blackish now though some areas look grayer than black and if you comb his coat backwards the bottom layers of his coat are straight whitish/silver.

Here's a thread from when he was super little. I found him when he was approx 3-4 weeks old. His bum is a little swollen in these because he had colitis/enteritis.

Getting a little bigger... and feisty.

Right before I sent him to Lauren (PWCorgi). She was kind enough to take him for me for a few months or so when we were trying to figure out living situation stuff because I really didn't want to rehome him.

Two threads that Lauren posted of him

Yeah I don't think my boy is a black smoke. It seems as their markings get harder to see as they get older while Dobby's are getting more visible. So I'm guessing he just has ghost markings? Or is an extremely dark black tabby?

I'm not an expert, but Lady Chesh is black smoke, and you're right, she lost almost all of her tabby markings as she grew. She just has a small spot on her head now.

Gah! Right in the feels! I miss that boy something fierce <3
Awe I'm sure he misses you too. His new favorite thing is if he is hungry he goes to his food bowl and nocks it clear off the ledge it's on so that it makes a loud clanging noise when it falls. Then he just hard stares at you waiting for you to pick it up and feed him lol.

Also every morning before Josh goes to work he likes to try and clean Josh's beard and rub his face on Josh's cheek lol.

Bamm loves him and spends a lot of time either playing with him or cuddling with him. He has loved that cat from the day he found him though.

I'm just going to go with he's a black cat with ghost tabby markings as for the most part he does appear solid black. In certain light you can see his stripes.

Either way I adore him in all of his naughty glory. He's earned the title King Dobby.
