I'm glad I used my intuition and great advice I've been getting from members of Chazhound. I took Kona to the vet a week ago to see if she was in heat otherwise I would spay. The vet didn't even look at her just said go ahead and make the appointment. I decided to wait, and at 11 months old, Kona is in heat. She started bleeding yesterday. I'm glad I didn't listen to that vet which I'm no longer going to. Now I will wait until late January to get her spayed so her hormones are in balance.

Thanks everyone for your great advice.

that's what they said about Shelby too, she wasn't in heat when she was spayed but the vet was like "oh it doesn't matter if she is in heat or not when we spay her".

You did the right thing!!! I worked for one vet who wouldn't spay a bitch in heat and one vet who would just dive in, not a care in the world! There are defiantly risks involved with spaying while in heat...your pooch is lucky to have a mom that cares!!
