Very Cool!!!

I was talking to my neighbors who own the Boston Terrier Buster and the lab/Saint puppy Kasey. They have a rabbit hutch in their yard that they never use. So I asked them if they still wanted it and they said probley not if we could help them move it. So we are probley going to move it to our yard behind our garage and either buy a couple rabbits or guinea pigs . The cages already have pets beds and dishes in them and its really solid. We have had both guinea pigs (which lived indoors) and Rabbits in the past. My mom said never again with the Guinea Pigs because of their chatter and smell. But outdoors it doesent matter and I know plenty of people who have outdoor guinea pigs.

Im pretty excited!!! I hope it all works out and we can get or buy that hutch.

Wow I always thought that guinea pigs were very sensitive animals, and drafts were not good for them. Learn something new everyday.

Oh yeah my mom has a friend at work who breeds them and he keeps them outdoors. He brings them in his basement and garage in the winter though. He's the one who actually sold us our first piggies and I even did some shows with them

It's pretty cool! After having octodons, chinchillas and mice for a year, I have a new respect for people who manage to deal with the persistant cleaning though

Why don't you get some rabbits or guinea pigs from the SPCA?

If you keep the guinea pigs/rabbits outside, the hutch will need to be somewhere out of heat. I don't know much about guinea pigs, but rabbits can not take the heat, and can not take the cold. I know people who have hutches inside of insullated sheds, er, for advice on safely keeping rabbits outdoors I would check out this forum:

It's called Rabbits United, it's based in the UK, but alot of people there have outdoor rabbits.....I prefer indoor rabbits though My 4 are litter trained and their cages are nothing more than puppy excercise pens.

IDK we will see most likely it will be rescues.

I would LOVE to have indoor Rabbits. But my mom is anal about the house so indoor rabbits are a definat no no. I figure we will put the hutch behind out garage where it is well shaded and private from everything else. In the winter I figure I will move them into our heated garage or maybe if my moms reasonable our basement.

Yup, however it also needs to be sheltered from animals such as raccoons, or other animals you have around there.....They can be pretty crafty when it comes to opening hutches, and remember that rabbits can die of fear. (Very weak hearts.)

I am certain if you sign up at that forum and ask for tips on making sure the hutch is in a nice safe place and is protected from all the elements as well as any dogs, cats, raccoons, birds, etc. You should get alot of help!

There's no shelter rabbits close to me. Their all hours away from me I don't think I can go a long ways away.

Aww Pixie thats great news. I've had both guinea pigs and rabbits but have had more rabbits over the years. I'm so excited for you .
