I never got to meet this dog because he was in foster care, but I thought he deserved a little memorial. Its always a tragedy when you lose a young one. :(

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of
little Picasso. He was rescued on November 4 from the
Fairfax Co. Animal Shelter, where he had been found as a
stray. Shortly after going into foster care, Picasso became
sick with an upper-respiratory infection common to shelter
dogs, but even with the best medical care, and lots of TLC
from his foster mom, his condition continued to decline.
His immune system was likely weakened from his time as
a stray, so he developed pneumonia, and eventually went
into kidney failure. The vets did everything they could, but
we ended up losing little Picasso the day before Thanksgiving. He was only 7
months old, and was the sweetest puppy imaginable. He touched the lives of
everyone lucky enough to know him, and was a such a trooper throughout his
treatment. The saddest part is that he already had an adopter who had signed
the paperwork to make Picasso a part of his family. At least he got to know what
it is like to be loved and cherished, if even for a short time.
