My dogs would probably escort the person around the property barking enthusiastically. I'm pretty sure Delgado at least would not let up. If they made any sort of threatening move they would be on them even more intensely. Except Lola, she's a wimp, but Chewy and Delgado for sure. If they came in in a bulky bite suit those two would be even more distressed because of the added strangeness. Chewy would be fearful, I'm sure; she talks a big game but she gets really flinchy when she's stressed out. I would hope the barking alone would deter anyone, and draw attention from the neighbors.

Delgado would definitely be the most effective deterrent. He is such a space case, but in some regards he is totally a closed book. He has a really strong protective instinct for us and our property, good intuition, and I believe he reads people a lot better than his idiotic tendencies let on, but he's so relaxed and goofy all the time it's hard to say. I have seen him do a total 180 personality wise on a few occasions when I was at the house alone or walking the dogs alone, and he definitely brings a sense of security.

Fudge would act very like the GSD in the video. He would probably nip if someone turned their back on him.

Tika would go mad but I don't think she's got it in her to bite anyone. |She does put on a brilliant show at the door though.

Aura and Diesel would bark but would turn and run if they were confronted. Aura might take a nip if the persons back was turned.

Scamp would either be super friendly or super aggressive. If the person came in and wasn't directly confrontational he would be fine. I think if he were pushed he would be the most likely to attack ... all 12lbs of him lol.

Ozzy and Taz would be unlikely to even get up.

This is all conjunction and based on their reactions when I am there. They have been let out by friends before but I always make sure they know the people very well beforehand.

Any situation where all the dogs are out together is unlikely anyway although they would definitely feed off each other. The only 2 left loose when we're not at home are Ozzy and Tika.

My dogs are all crated when we leave but if they did happen to be loose while a stranger came in I am fairly certain that Dance would bark non-stop and back into a corner somewhere while keeping her eye on the person, Keira would bark and growl and raise her hackles but keep a safe distance, and Ripley would charge the intruder barking and growling and looking really angry, but if the intruder moved forward he would probably back off and just watch or follow the intruder around warily.

Who really knows, though. It's hard to say. I don't think any of my dogs would harm a person. Ripley plays the "look big and scary" game, but he wouldn't know what to do if it actually came to guarding his home I don't think. His reaction would likely be a lot more severe if it was me being harmed but even then I think it would probably just be a lot of noise.

Hopefully my dogs never have to be put in such a situation, and if somebody ever did break in, hopefully the intruders would just ignore the barking dogs in their crates. It would really suck to have my stuff taken and my home be invaded, but it would be even worse if any harm came to my dogs. I can't even imagine.

I was just thinking of a time a dog thought my mom was an intruder. I was dog-sitting for a friend and her Sheltie, who was really the most impeccable, nicest dog in the world, wanted no part of my mom in his home. He'd met her before, but didn't really know her and wouldn't stop barking and went after her leg a couple times looking like he was thinking of biting. This didn't go on for long as the dog knew me so I got him to relax and then he was his regular happy, friendly self and decided my mom was worth loving too. But I remember being surprised at his reaction. He was the last dog I would have expected that much protection instinct out of.

Henry has a small protective streak. He's 6 and didn't always 'guard' the house. Several of years ago, someone tried to break into the apartment we were living in. Henry was not crated and went nuts. My next door neighbor was home and heard the whole thing. She called me at work, frantic, once she realized something was happening, then called the police.

I came home to a horrible scene. Henry had scared the burgler off (who had never gotten in the house or had contact with Henry) by attempting to launch himself through the living room window. He had attacked and mauled at the window, ruining the blinds and cracking the glass. Thank God he was not seriously injured. It did seem to traumatize him a bit.

Fast forward to us buying our house. Our mailbox is on the house itself, and Henry barks and growls at the postman for about 30 seconds every day. I have worked with him on this behavior (meeting the mail carrier, treating him for being calm, etc) and he still continues to display it.

Would he protect the house? I'm not sure. He happily greets people at the door (when we are home) but will alarm bark until I tell him it's ok and bring the person inside. His incidence at the apartment and now his lingering resentment towards the mail carrier makes me wonder.

Wesley is *very* loud and barks at *everyone* who walks past our house...poodles are, in general, pretty darn barky (with no bite). However, aside from that he is a suck up and wants to tackle strangers with love and kiss them and wiggle all over them when they come into the house, so he would be a horrible guard dog.

...My attack bunnies are an entirely different matter. :rofl1:

Both Zuma and Zinga would throw themselves at him over and over.. If I was lucky, one of those body slams would nail him in the unmentionable area and another in his eyeball. Hopefully between the two merle screaming torpedos he would be disabled for a bit.

I think I would have agreed to done this experiment with Quinn. She normally loves people, but some people just ick her out and she wants nothing to do with them. When we're home and someone is at the door she'll bark but stop once we welcome them in. One time a friend of my dads was at the door and she was barking as usual - he decided to try and come in and there was an instant change in her "tone". She got very loud and very serious sounding. He was turned off enough he closed the door again and waited on the porch. I don't think she would bite, but I'm glad she can sound like she will.

Dally on the other hand would welcome anyone in with open arms. She regularly jumps in people's cars as they're leaving, too.

Mine are all crated but there would be a lot of noise one way or another. Payton has a big dog bark and assuming he was being nice he would throw himself all over the guy and that might be frightening, but it wouldn't be dangerous exactly. I mean, Payton gives me bruises on a daily basis, but I don't think anybody would take him as a threat if he were just being his usual stupid self.

OTOH. About a month or so ago, I was in bed with the dogs. Or rather Auggie was on the bed next to me and Payton was laying on his bed on the floor. Well, all of a sudden, I see Payton get up and hear him growling, low and scary-like, and he's COMING TOWARDS THE BED. I'm like uhhh, WTF are you doing?
He jumped up on the bed and stood over me, turned around to face the bedroom door, growling.
I took my earplugs out and realized that my dad had come home. Payton heard the door opening, and even though my mom is up before us and taking Georgie out in the morning, he apparently knew the door opening late at night wasn't normal and therefore *stood over me, growling at the door.*

I still don't know if he would actually protect me with his teeth if push came to shove, but I have never had a dog react like that, even Kota the super dog. It was kind of impressive LOL. From a sheltie. A SHELTIE. Oh Payton. <3

All that said, my dogs are not there to protect me. That's why I'm getting an alarm system. And yeah, I definitely don't want my dogs being hurt should somebody want to break in and steal my stuff. Take the stuff, it's just stuff, but the dogs can't be replaced. A barking dog is honestly a pretty good deterrent though, at least around here, so they are quite good at that.

Meg, of all dogs, will growl if people she doesn't know try to come upstairs (where my rooms are). I don't think she's back it up though. They certainly would be able to get her out of the house like the pap though. She's lived with my father for 7 years and she won't let him walk her. She's terrified of being kidnapped I think.

Gusto would probably make the robber so annoyed by leaping all over him and grabbing the stuff they were trying to steal and then playing keep away with it, they would give up. I've never seen an ounce of protective instinct in him, although he's young yet.

at this point in his life, Hudson thinks he is the official greeter to wherever we happen to be.

Christmas tree farm? Go say hi to everyone who comes in
In the yard? Get upset when the nice lady gets out of her car and doesn't immediately come say hi
Puppy K? beg for treats from the people and body slam the dogs

Yeah, he's kind of an attention *****.

Well, the only one I can say for sure, is Noods who would bark his head off backing up, if they approached him he would run and hide under the lowest piece of furniture...because I was the one to retrieve him out from under a couch when we had to remove him from his previous situation, it wasn't pretty and it wasn't fun.

Jinj, I'd surmise he'd start with his usual "look fierce barking out the window", but if they came in he'd probably show them to the fridge.

Enda's in a kennel when we're gone, but if loose, I have no idea, when we're here she usually backs away at first and paces frantically around the house till you greet the guest, I could see her charging if alone or pressed, but then again I've come home after being out numerous times to find my brother with a random friend (one's even wheel chair bound), her out, and everyone's happy, so, it's up in the air.

If it was a big male, Chloe would without a doubt attack. She's tried to attack welcomed male guests before, so I can only imagine what she would do to someone unwelcome. If it were a female, she would probably be okay. Excited to see them, unless they acted weird/threatening. Same goes with a kid/teenager.

The three munchkins would be happy to say hello to their new friend. Lol

I don't really know. I came home unexpectedly once and I was quickly met with snarls and teeth flying through the air. She scared the **** out of me, but I figured turning and running would be a worse choice than just standing there and hoping she figured out it was me. I was actually surprised she was so defensive without me in the house. Under most circumstances, I'm not sure she'd do much if I wasn't there. Then again, she throws a fit when she sees people she knows outside, so who knows. She may be able to be won over. She really likes food. :p

Hmm. Most of my dogs would stand 5 ft away and bark. A few might show them around.

Boomer might be really concerned if it was a man/teenage boy. He has gotten a little worked up before, he does not like teenage boys.

Fez would be concerning. He is crated when we leave but he might actually bite...

Harry nailed a family member who walked into our house unannounced. I was home, but he was such a territorial dog that I think he'd have done it even if we weren't.

Stan and Grant are worthless as guards.

Peewee would love on them and say HI.
Ivan if he could get to the door before they fully opened it, would bash the door off their forehead, barking and screaming at them the whole time. I don't know if he would bite someone if I wasn't there. Thankfully he is crated when we are not home and at night. As he takes his "job" of guarding me against evil very seriously.

Mine are crated normally but if they were loose I'd really like to see what they would do. I know for sure that aura wouldn't hurt a fly so she would alert bark and probably hide in her crate while Riley went absolutely nuts. I'd question the mental stability of anyone willing to enter once they saw Riley anyways. Lol. He would put on a scary show for sure but I don't know that he would actually bite unless they got in his personal space and tried to touch him.

Tulip would run, hide and probably wet herself. Godric, I'm not so sure... He would probably put on a big show but wouldn't follow through with anything.... Of course, unless, there was a night break in and flashlights were involved....Godric loves the flashlights so he'd make new friends fast!
