Hi all, I haven't been on here for ages 'coz of personal problems, i'm sure no one noticed though :(
Anyway, I was just wondering what people thought of tail docking? I'm really not sure what the point of it is, I saw a doberman with a tail the other day, and it looked beautiful.
IS there any actual benefit to the animal with regard to docking? Apologies if this subject is somewhere else too xxxxxxx

I don't think there is much of a benefit anymore. Way back when they first started docking it was benficial, but many people don't like the fact that a person is cutting the tail off a dog.

that thread was originally discussing tail docking that is not for health reasons. so just in case, I'll add my 2 cents.

some breeds have very furry tails that hang down and can get very dirty and infected. for example, cocker spaniels. that's why they have their tails docked. to prevent infection and dirt and all that.
