Vibes needed for Vidia

Barb, I may have issues talking the hubby into it each time (our bout of ringworm really turned him off) but it's worth it. I LOVE knowing that I'm making a difference.

I really feel like she should have come home from the vet's days ago. When I take her food she hobbles it up, I don't see how her appetite could have changed so drastically ...unless it was stress related at the vet, another reason she should have come home sooner. I honestly feel like this vet was just running up their bill.

One of my cats got very stressed out at the vet. We had left him there for testing and an hour later the vet said to come pick him up because he was so stressed out. That might have been the problem with this cat.

I hope your husband will be on board again. It's hard with something like ring worm, I certainly didn't appreciate the ear mites. But, Hyia so has her hopes up for next year.

I dread taking SAncho to the vet. I dread even trying to take him in the car. YOu would think by seeing him that he is having a full on heart attack and stroke at the same time.

Do you have other vets you could check out? IF i thought one was possibly padding the bill, that would be it for me.

If you plan to regularly foster kittens, or if Vidia's URI symptoms linger, look into getting a lysine supplement to keep on hand. It really does help them fight the herpes virus, as it makes it difficult for the virus to survive. Vets usually sell Viralyse, which is a gel in a tube like nutrical, or there are even lysine treats for cats which need it longer term. I start any kitten who looks suspicious for URI on it as soon as they start showing symptoms, and my oldest cat was on it for a long while as she had a recurring/lingering URI as a kitten (it went away after a month or so, and she's been fine since). It doesn't mean they won't need antibiotics/eye meds, but every little thing helps. It's a good sign that she has a hearty appetite, hope she continues to do well for you!

Barb, I really think that was the case with Vidia. I have had no problem at all with her eating here (except the first day, before she went to the vet) I think they could have just given her meds and sent us home.

Smkie, I adore fostering. It's just a little more difficult to manage now that we're keeping Zoey. As all the sick fosters can pass it to her. It's hard to keep them apart. The fosters live in our bathroom but I have to barricade under the door because both are small enough to go under. As I type this Zoey keeps running back there and trying to play pattycake under the door. I pray she doesn't get sick too. We have talked about only fostering for kittens who need to find homes vs the ones from the shelter who are always sick. Unfortunately I have no input on the vet, the rescues decide where they go. I can't afire the vet bills myself. Sorry to hear Sancho has such a bad time going to the vet's.

Busannie the vet actually gave us a large tube of viralys so we should have it for awhile.

Thank you Whisper. She is definitely on the mend. Today she escaped from her quarantine room and was escorted through the house by Zoey, my girls said Zoey was giving Vidia a tour of the house...I just hope Zoey doesn't get sick now.

Never hurts to start Zoey on the lysine, too. We keep all of the shelter cats at the clinic on a constant lysine supplement, whether they're showing symptoms or not. Helps prevent outbreaks!

Awww, that's a great sign she's trying to be a little escape artist! And I agree with blackrose about the lysine. Don't want to have to go through the same thing again with Zoey!
