I've cut back on my regular soda consumption (can't stand the taste of diet soda). I have one bottle on the weekends, usually drink half a bottle each day with lunch - which is also when I allow myself to snack on potato chips. Gotta have that salt/sweet combo. :)

I just drink water at work and if I need a caffeine hit, I have my stash of dark chocolate Hershey kisses, although I limit those to just two per day. :D

Coffee and tea both have have anti oxidants. By adding milk or cream, that neutralizes the effects of the anti-oxidants.
Yes Caffine is great lol!

Just wanted to say I looked into this the last time you posted it as I love a bit of cream in my tea. AND the calcium paired with caffine is a good thing...

There is only one study that states that (that I could find) and it wasn't definitive, as they only looked at 16 people, and only used milk vs no milk. It could have been the sugars in the milk.. so cream might be fine it could have been the milk proteins so maybe creamer is ok... they don't know. They also didn't measure how much of a difference there was just a more of a yes no answer. Not that I drink my tea for its antioxidants! Its freakin delicious.

Just saying (not to dober.. but to everyone) if you can find the primary research do it. Often what the media picks and chooses isn't really what the scientists are saying they found. One of the talks our research class had was by a fellow who's job it is to try to connect the public with science research that is applicable in a non biased way. Now that I have started looking at things (like the studies on sweetners) its very interesting to see what the media seems to pull out as the 'take home message'

I just heard this on the Dr. Oz show. He had some cancer specialist as a guest....and was talking about anti-oxidants in various foods. I love tea...mainly black tea, Earl Gray in particular with that lovely bergamot. I also like the idea of the anti-oxidants. I like a little fat free cream in my coffee, not too rich or slimy, lol... but it makes it a little mellow, but also like it black. Either way, as long as it's fresh ground beans and strong, full bodied flavor.

I'm not apt to do a full scale research project on these types of things because if I really like something, as long as I don't think it's too terrible, I'm going to indulge in it anyhow. :p

Good for you! I love coffee! I am such an addict. Starbucks knows me on a first name basis :D During pregnancy (with both) I never completely gave up coffee. I did limit my intake but I had to have it or I thought I would die! That was my guilty pleasure :D

Does anyone know of soda that is sweetened with sucralose besides Diet Rite? I LOVE Diet Rite but apparently it's become really hard to find. I love the tangerine and the white grape, but all I can find anymore is cola.

I research up the ying yang things that really matter to me or that I think will make a big difference. But something like a little tbsp of cream in my coffee...well....that just doesn't seem research-worthy...not worth spending much time on. :p

ah but it depends.. when one is in the sciences (so has easy access to lit) the why and how is far more interesting on the actual answer.

Dekka, I commend you for going the Chemistry route. I had 2 inorganic chem classes and 2 organic chem classes (all had their own separate lab class). That was more than enough. :p

I'm more of a physics person myself. Oh, and biomechanics and physiology (like cardiac physiology the best, then neurophysiology, and then pulmonary physiology....but they all work together). :D
