If it's comfortable for him to use it, he'll catch-on quickly. My sister uses ramps for her geriatric dog in the home and car and he knew exactly what it was for and took to using it immediately. The car ramp took a little a while longer as it's a steep climb (an SUV), but as he already equated the house ramp with no pain, it wasn't as difficult as it might have been.

Keeping my fingers crossed. Please give us updates when you can. Smart move to let him stay with you. It's still important to let the swelling and incisions heal.

If your bed is high off the ground, I read where someone took the mattress off of the frame and put it directly on the floor so it wasn't so high up. This may help with a ramp so it's not so steep. I hope our JB is doing okay today.
