I'm told this guy is a Wirehaired Fox Terrier. I'm thinking Jack Russell. What do you all think? I don't know if he's been shaved or not, but his coat is really weird. Short in some places, long and wiry in others.

Not a WFT - their heads, color pattern and coat are different. Looks like a wiry JRT/Parsons (maybe mixed with something else) to me ...

Coat on this dog looks like a broken jrts/prts, not what a Wire Haired Fox Terrier looks like............

But he also has brindle on him which is disqualification for a reg'd JRT/PRT.

The head doens't look like a fox or a jrt completely, FT have a narrow, long muzzle whereas this dog could be just a snippy looking jrtx dog.

FT conformation tends to be tall, very deep chested, very straight back, straight shoulders, very long neck and over angulated for the hind legs.

Tail is docked way to short for either breed.

To me he looks like a poorly bred jrt x.

I have seen some skeezily bred JRTs that look like that. I had a foster who was very similar (tho better markings/brindle).

Could be a badly bred JRT or JRT mix.

Thanks! Yeah, I didn't believe the Fox Terrier part. I've never known a wirehaired but have know a few smooths and didn't think he looked like one at all.

since it's most likely a mix it very well could be WFT in the background rather than JRT. dogs of similar type have similar affects in crossing. for example a good performance bred AB used in bandog program will produce similar even identical conformation to a large APBT when put over the excellent bitches of the same mastiff breed.
