I'm considering giving a head halter a try with Abrams, to see if that will help redirect him if he begins to bark at someone. He did great today, we didn't have any issues, but I still think it may be nice to have control of his nose in some situations versus just his neck, especially in the car when I need to redirect him and am unable to grab treats.

I've only ever used a Gentle Leader, but I think I like the look of a Halti more? Are there any other brands?

Gentle Leader is more secure, but "Halti" usually comes with an extra strap that hooks onto the collar in case the Halti falls off. I feel the Halti works a little bit better but sometimes it rides up into the dogs' eyes. Gentle Leader seems to fit most dogs. The Company of Animals has one called the Omnifit, I do really like this one, and they are at my store-but you can't find them anywhere online or listed at their website ?? And for what it's worth I don't usually use a head halter for walks and stuff, but I've had some issues with Fiona in the house and use it for that.

My recommendation is to take him into a store, try them on, walk him around a bit with both, and decide which feels better to you.

I love love love my Gentle Leader.

ETA: They're awesome, as long as they are fit properly. I rarely see them fit properly.

Remember when yours wasn't!

Also, I vote for the Gentle Leader as well, if you're looking for more control of the head in general.

I really like the sporn one. I like that it attaches in the back like a regular collar... The under the chin just annoys me. I also like that you can use it as a reg collar also if you opt to. But really the back of the head attachment sold me on it.

I'll probably just purchase a gentle leader, then. I will likely only use it in very limited situations (in the car/first getting out of the car), so something that is super duper awesome all purpose isn't really necessary since he won't be walked with it. I'm basically just looking for head control so if he fixates on something I'm able to remove his attention from it more reliabley in order to engage him with me and not with whatever he would like to bark at. We've been doing alright without one, I just think it will help me out a bit. When he fixates, he'd hard pressed to distract - which is great when he's paying attention to me, not so great when he decides to bark at something!

I've used it before, so I'm fairly certain I know how to fit it properly, but just in case...any good links to show how to fit it?

I wish Gentle Leader still made the wide nose bands more readily available - I have a lot of hate for the thin noseband on many dogs.

A couple other head halters I've either used or have heard good things about:

Tender Lead from Bebop USA (my personal fav)
BlackDog head halter (from Australia)
Snoot Loop
Comfort Trainer

I prefer head collars to attach at the back, too. For under-the-chin ones, I like Gentle Leaders best.
