Liver shunt?

What's a liver shunt? I read it somewhere but I still don't really get it. My friend's friend yorkie that she paid $2000 AKC , got it from her dog from a good known breeder she just found out that her dog has liver shunt? I think they are going to get ultra sound to see if they can operate on her. I just think even a good breeder can still breed dogs with genetic defects.

No they didn't tell her. I guess the breeder didn't know either. THey just found out when they took her to the vet because she didn't want to eat for a week. So they did all these test and found out that she has liver shunt
