Im currenty house and dog sitting for lee's parents. Monty (their dog) has serious issues, I've known that since day one, its because of the way he was brought up, no socialisation really, serous confrontation, and they will bribe him wih treats if he wont listen.

Shadow is with me in lee's parents house, and their playing is getting way too rough, monty is starting to get nasty, he's bitten her a few times, she yelps, but will carry on, its like she wont learn. But he does seem to be getting more vicious.

Yesterday I was upstairs with my partner changing the bed linen on lee's parents bed so we could go to bed, monty jumped up on the bed, we told him to get down, which he wouldnt, so i picked him up to move him, he went mad, snarling, growling, I got him of the bed, onto the floor, he tried to jump back up, and I put my arm in the way. Thats when he went for be, he ripped my pjama top, and grazed the skin, only because my reflexes made me move my arm, otherwise I dont know what type of damage he may have caused. We took hom straight downstairs and he was locked in the kitchen, he seems fine again now, he will listen to me, when he feels like it, and only seems to get aggressive when he's playing with shadow.

I am now really worried for monty, i think it was my fault he went for me, I shouldnt have dragged him off the bed, but my boyf says, if he had bitten me and drawn blood, then lee would have him put down.

This has been playing on my mind all night, its not monty's fault, its the way he's been brought up, lee's parents think he's fine, and wont do anything to try and alter this behaviour.

I am worried he may go for me again, it doesnt bother me that he may bite me, I still treat him the same way, if he does, he does, but that will be the end for him. Im also worried about the way he is with shadow, if he goes for her in a nasty way, that will be it, I will not visit him ever again, I will not put my puppy at risk.

Please any one, help, Im at my wits end thinking about what may happen.....

yea, sounds pretty aggressive to me. I dunno, but make sure Shadow isn't getting to hurt or anything, and Monty too. Do they start barking and everything?

yeah, they bark, monty snarls, barks, growls, whines, he even whines when shadow licks him.

He gets really aggressive if you ever try to take something of him, or try to get him to do something he doesnt want to do.

I dont know what i'll be able to do if he gets something he shouldnt have or goes somewhere he shouldnt be, he's usually bribed in these situaions, god it makes me so mad thinking about it, he manipulates everyone. I really dont want to reinforce this behaviour by continuing it.

and I am very worried they will get into a proper fight.

this is a nightmare.

Give Shadow a few more months to grow and get more confident and Monty will learn a lesson - and he won't feel much like challenging you either ;) And it will be good for him to learn about not being able to have his way all the time.

Banishment is the best treatment for snarky behaviour like Monty's, and if you leave a leash on him while you're there you've got something to grab hold of him by without giving him the satisfaction of being able to get to you.

Ouch, sounds like a tough situation. Please don't feel guilty. I'm new here, but you seem to an experienced dog owner. Don't blame yourself if the dog bites you.

How long are you going to be housesitting? This may sound hard, but if it's just a for few days, I would doing nothing to try and retrain Monty. Just bribe him with treats like his family does. It sounds like he has a dominance issue, and that takes more than a few days to overcome. Besides, if his family isn't willing to do anything with him, he'd just revert back to his old ways once they come back anyway.

Keep Shadow away from Monty. I can't stress this enough. Monty could hurt her. And if he starts something serious with Shadow, you could get yourself hurt trying to stop him. It's also a horrible truth that if there's a fight and Monty gets bitten badly enough to go to the vet, I guarantee that Shadow will be blamed. I think it's just wrong, but Staffs and pit bulls are always considered to be the ones at fault, no matter what the circumstances. Just look at Cleveland!
