When I worked at the pet hotel... omg, I can empathize with ALL OF THESE! People are carayzay. -__-
My least favorite part of being a manager was telling people that their dog bit a person or another dog. Just, painful. Excruciatingly painful! Some people have a brain in their heads and apologize profusely, ask for advice, face reality. But a lot of people would argue with me. "NOT MY CHARLIE!!!" "Umm yes, he did. He's not a bad dog, we lovehim. But we'll have to restrict him from group play..." "That other dog/person must have provoked him!" "Well, even so, it's not good for him to instantly resort to biting. Working with a trainer will really help--" "Excuse me?!? I do train him! I watch the dog whisperer and I got him that prong collar!" *lesighhh* People want to blame anyone but themselves, and their dog suffers for their ignorance. Even people who bring their dog in, lunging and barking at other people/dogs, are completely shocked when their dogs reactivity results in a bite. I hear a lot of terrible excuses like "he's a rescue!" yeah, you rescued him 3 years ago. Time to face the issue and at least manage it and be honest about it. "He's only like this because a dog attacked him as a puppy!" instead of babying him, actually teach him not to be afraid of other dogs. Or manage his behavior, and stop treating him like a perfect little angel. Just because he got attacked doesn't make it ok for him to do the same to other dogs now.
I'm still shocked by people who act like their dogs are beloved and spoiled, and they feed Dog Chow. C'mon now! The information is OUT THERE! What excuse can you possibly have for not realizing that is crap food, if you call yourself a dog enthusiast? This super rich woman would bring in her Golden Retrievers, and forget their food all of the time. We would offer to feed them our house food for free (Science Diet), but she would insist that we go into the store and pull an enormous bag of Dog Chow for them. I tried over & over to explain to her that SD was not the best, but it's way better than Dog Chow! Never convinced her of that. So many people were like that and made me want to pull my hair out... "Nope, he can only eat Alpo! I swear by it!" Wow, really? You think he's in top condition with his coarse, yucky coat, yellow teeth and disgusting odor? Okayyy
On top of those, I despise...
* People with leash reactive dogs who INSIST on them meeting your dogs! Wtf, bro?
* People who ask for training advice over and over, but proceed to not even listen to you every time.
* People who let their dogs pee all over merchandise, walls and the floor. At Pmart once, $500 in bolster beds were ruined by one Great Dane pissing all over them repeatedly!!! People either look away, or laugh and shrug. They never clean it up. Not even their dog's ****. Keep your dog close to you! Don't let them wander around aimlessly and not pay attention to them! Let them **** outside! Seriously...
* People who think that because it's a pet store/hotel, they can just drop the leash and let their dog run amok. Only Fozzie is allowed this luxury.
* People who get pissed at you because their dog has poo on their butt (boarding pet peeve)... of course, we clean their butts if we notice that, but really it's not our fault! Get your dog on a better diet! Take them to their groomer to trim their sanitary area! They came in with poo on their butt, and you didn't pay or even ask us to clean it.
