Kayaking with a dog?

How does this work? I know a few of you do it...and I really want to go kayaking this weekend (never been) and would like to bring Milo. Does he sit on my lap? Do I clip his life vest to something? If I clip him and the kayak flips, won't that be a problem?

From the look of the kayaks, there's really no where else for him to sit than my lap.

I've never heard of kayaking with a dog. Now a canoe would work. I want to go sea kayaking but I think I'll take fiona when she's older and leave the dogs behind lol
