Excessive barking in crate

We have had our new pooch since last Friday (7 month old Treeing Walker Coonhound). There have been a few times that when we have put him in the crate, he barks and whines excessively. We have simply been ignoring him until he stops barking. On nights that he barks a lot it lasts upwards of 30 minutes. Some nights he went right to sleep after a half-hearted single whimper.

Suggestions for handling this issue???

Don't they like baying/howling anyways? Do you let him potty before crating him? Why is he being crated? Ignoring is usually good as long as there isn't an underlying problem with why he's barking/whining.

He is being crated while we are not home during the day - and also is crated at night for sleeping.

Here is his routine:

5:30am Wake up and go potty
5:45am-6:45am Run/Jog/Walk while I rollerblade
7:00am eat
7:30am go potty
7:35am - go into his crate for the morning while we are at work
12:00pm - go potty and go for a 10 minute walk (I come home for lunch)
12:30pm - back into his crate for the afternoon
4:30pm - I get home and take him potty
4:45-5:45 - Run/Jog/Walk while I rollerblade
5:45 take him potty after the walk
6:00pm eat
6:30pm go potty
6:30pm-10:00pm training/lounging/playing (1 potty @ 8:30pm)
10:00pm final potty break of the night
10:10pm - into his crate for sleep time
