Well, I've given up on ever finding my Nikon. So now I need a new good camera. And with so many awesome photographers here, I know I can probably get awesome suggestions. :D

I can do a good deal of editing on my own, so it doesn't need to be OMG perfect. But editing or not, it's just easier when the raw files are the best quality possible.

So here's what I'm looking for...

  • Under $300. Under $250 would be better.
  • Clear, sharp shots
  • Really nice focus
  • User friendly, but something I can grow on. I've forgotten settings, ISO, everything. I'll need to re-learn.
  • HD Video would be a plus, but probably asking too much.
  • Longetivity, sturdiness. I'm toting it around the country, across seas, with dogs, and I'm REALLY clumsy.

This also needs to be a camera I can be confident in just buying without trying. Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of no-where. Limited Target, Walmart, very small BX...that's it. No Best Buy or anything. I'll probably have to buy online and ship.

Any demo pics you can show would be great as well!

Thanks in advance.

I <3 used thru KEH/Adorama/B&H - they are online, so distance isn't an issue, their grading system is very accurate, the prices can't be beat, and the gear has a guarantee (unlike buying off of CL).

I got my Canon XT body and kit lens for about $250 shipped and my zoom lens for about $64. :D

High end P&S wouldn't be terrible, I'm not sure what nice DSLRs would fit into my price range. So either or, I guess. Or somewhere in the middle.

Bozeman is about 3 1/2 hours from me. I've surfed around craigslist for this area, but there's not much going on.

I'll look into KEH/Adorama/B&H, thanks!

:p I DID love my old Nikon. And I do mean OLD. D40...when it was film.

I've heard Canons have better focus, though.
