Sounds like a real rip off. I remove stiches myself in most cases if they're going to charge me extra. All I need is a dog that holds still, good light, small, pointy scissors and a pair of tweezers, a little Neo Sporin afterwards. And my bi-focals so I'm sure to get every one. LOL. I don't know...I guess the re-check is important usually. I know how to recognize if something is pussy, red, too swollen...signs of infection. Some of these vets do charge exorbitant amounts. And in this economy, it really pisses me off.

No payments for follow up visits for us either. Depending on the type of visit our vet office either charges $60 or $40. If it is a full physical exam like a yearly check up it is more expensive. If you are going in for a specific reason it is cheaper. When Abbey nearly severed one of her digital pads off we had to have visits every 2 or 3 days to rebandage and check stitches for a couple of weeks and the only cost was the initial fee when the pad was reattatched.

if the vets i work for put in sutures, there is no charge to remove them. but these sutures were put in by an e-vet, so it would make sense to me that there would be an office visit fee charged by the regular vet. hopefully this would include going over what happened, examining the injured area to make sure everything is healing as expected, as well as the suture removal. $100 sounds like a lot to me, but i'm in a completely different part of the country, so for where you are located, it might be the norm.

My vet's office visits are $35. Follow-up appointments are free. I think you'd be wise to look for another vet, especially after the other reviews you found.
