While I don't think the safety of all of the humans on that highway should've been put in jeopardy by this guy driving 100 mph, that cop was a douchebag and could've handled it differently.

"It's a dog. You can get another one."

You had better believe that I am going to go as fast as is required if I have a medical emergency with one of my pets!

Asshat!

At least here (canada) if you have an emerg and you are going to be speeding, call the local police and tell them. I know of a few people rushing pets (or people if they are to far away from the hospital to wait for an ambulance) who have done so. The police understood and they didn't have any issues.

I think the police are often reasonable about that . . . I know another situation with a badly wounded animal where the cop not only let them off, he gave them a police escort to the vet.

But I'm not sure they have any obligation to be decent about it . . . and the way that guy was weaving between semis was scary. I just don't know about the situation . . . the cop behaved badly. He should have escorted them to the vet THEN given them a ticket, or just let them go with a warning that he would be following.

On the other hand, having rushed dying animals to the vet, or been holding the animal while my parents did, complying with traffic laws is the last thing on anyone's mind, and it would be almost impossible NOT to speed.

Hmm tough call. On one hand as a dog lover I can certainly sympathize with doing what you can to save your dying pets life...

On the other hand the thought of someone weaving in and out of traffic at 100 mph scares the crap out of me.

I do think the cop could have handled the situation better.

When Jazz put the nail through her neck I rushed her to the vet. A cop pulled me over doing 160km per hr. He took one look at me, then Jazz, then the blood SOAKED towel wraped around her neck and just said be carefull and walked away. It was on a straight non busy secondary hwy

In both cases I think an escort should have been provided . Once my son had to race Tom from Chicago to Indy .....lights flashing and hand on horn !!! We had hoped we would be stopped !

Years ago, a guy at the place where I was working managed to chop off all four of his fingers on his right hand.
We were a long ways from the hospital, any hospital.
I loaded him up in my car after wrapping his arm (it had deep lacerations on it too) and his hand, wrapped up his fingers and put them in a cooler with ice.
Called the cops to let them know I was on my way and which highway.

Buried the speedometer on my car......fourways on, horn never stopped.

As I approached the city, they had intersections blocked, at the first set of lights it was blocked with cops and I had cruisers pick me up, one in front and one behind, lights and sirens going.

At the hospital, emerg was ready for him outside and took him away quickly.
At that point one of the cops looked at his watch.........eye brows up and said hmmmmmmmmm you must have been moving....I told him to check the speedometer on my car.......which was still buried and stuck.......he laughed.

They saved the fingers on that guy........and as far as I know he regained full use of his fingers. He came to work a couple of weeks later, steel sticking out the ends of the fingers with corks on them to thank me for the ride :D

What I want to know . . . is HOW he did that to himself?!

There's a difference between calling and making people aware and speeding, or speeding at over 100mph on a highway at night and then jumping out of your car acting frantic. Chances are much more likely they just pulled over somebody all drugged out than someone trying to save a choking dog. I imagine cops have heard everything at that time of night and occassionally they get it wrong.

That stupid cop should have let him off with a warning.

BUT the driver could have put someone else life in danger.

I think the cop should have escorted them to the vet, and then given them a ticket once the dog was looked after. They shouldn't have been speeding, but that cop was sure a jerk about the poor dog!!!
