again with this. I really don't know what to do anymore. The herbs he was on weren't working so we tried different herbs. Those obviously aren't working either. It would be one thing if he had the same problem every time. But no, sometimes it's high ph, sometimes it's low, bladder stones, UTI, bladder infection, it's all over the place so it's not like we can say "THIS is the culprit, change THIS." It's not food and it's not water or it would be the same problem.

Does anybody have any ideas at all? I'm about to dive into Google and try to come up with something. The only other thing I can think of is to ask for an ultrasound and see if there's something going on internally, his breeder's husband suggested that. Auggie was cryptorchid and the vet who did his neuter is the kook who I feel mismanaged both Happy and Kota. I imagine problems should have shown up before he was five years old (when this all started) but maybe not? I'm just at my wits end here. I feel like we are going to have to go the route of putting him on a low dose of abx all the time. Either that or do a month of abx every three months routinely. He was just on them about a month ago for his bladder infection and when he came off them doc said his urine looked great. And yet here we are again. It's been almost a year since I first found out he was having problems (I remember because it was right after I brought Pay home) and now we're still struggling with stuff. A different problem but bladder/UTI problems nonetheless.

He had full blood work run before his bladder surgery last year so I don't think it's a kidney problem. I float his food in about a cup of water for both breakfast and dinner, sometimes he even burps up a little bit of water after eating because I think it's an awful lot of water. =/

My other option is to book an appointment at the small animal clinic at the vet school. Obviously Auggie thinks buying a house was a huge mistake and he's going to single handedly, and simultaneously, make me go bankrupt and insane.

Could it just be moving into a new place? I'm sure you've already thought of that, though.

Vibes that it's just a one time freak thing!

She *just* bought the house.. I'm fairly certain she hasn't moved yet.

I'm sorry he's having problems again :( I'd do the ultrasound, probably

I would do this. Or maybe get a referral to a veterinary internal medicine specialist.

But, for better or for worse, I'm someone who always seeks advice from an expert in any given field, so that may be my own bias talking.

I'm so sorry. I know how hard health problems can be. Good vibes for both of you.

An ultrasound may or may not show anything, but it's worth asking about.

I totally feel for you with pee issues. Gavroche has had pee problems for the past several months and its driving me crazy. Fortunately no stones (yet >.<) but one low-grade UTI after another. He does great on antibiotics, and when he comes off he pees everywhere again. He's been on antibiotics AGAIN, 4 weeks of one and now he's on week 2 of another trying to get rid of whatever has been lurking in there (never have grown anything). Also possible neuter incontinence on top of that, but we can't sort out what's what when he keeps getting UTIs.

Vibes for you and Auggie that you figure something out! I know it's exceedingly frustrating :/

Yeah, we haven't moved yet. I haven't even really started packing so it's not like there are big changes going on all over the place.

Auggie's breeder worked at the vet school for years and recommended a vet to me back when Payton was having his poopy problems. I asked her back when this bladder stuff started again that doctor's name and told her I was thinking of taking Auggie to see him. She didn't tell me I absolutely should go see him but I really have so few options left right now. Acupuncture is pretty much the only other thing I can think without seeing the doc at the vet med school. Maybe Auggie has some spinal issues that are causing this - he hates to be picked up a certain way and acts like it hurts, but our chiro/DVM has never said there's an issue beyond a few vertebrae being a little out (which she adjusts when we see her.)

This could be that his bladder infection never completely cleared up but his urine looked GREAT Doc said... but still... urgh. Maybe I'll just ask for a full month's worth of abx this time and make sure we get it. *sigh*

Ugh, I'm sorry. :(

I know you've had issues with Auggie and his bladder for a while now, poor guy. I have no good advice, but hope everything works out okay.

Took his sample this morning to be run and sure enough, UTI. (Had a bit of a funny at the vet when I gave the sample to the receptionist. "When did you collect this?" "Just now." "This morning?" "Just now." "How long ago?" "Literally just now right outside your door." "...oh." I mean, it would be funny if I didn't think they were kind of idiots.) Doc wants to do a cystocentesis. I can afford it but I'm gonna make a post in the art forum in a bit selling derpy dog drawings to try and offset the cost a bit. Anyway, hopefully we will figure something out with the cysto and this will help. The good news is Auggie hasn't peed in the house since last night so I don't think he's feeling absolutely terrible. I gave him some Traumeel to help in case it hurt so he'll be on that for a few days to help with any inflammation.

Then I got an e-mail from Auggie's breeder that they had a health scare with his grandma and she skipped a trial this weekend to stay home and watch her. She's better but just wanted to keep an eye on her so stayed home. I never ever ever want those kinds of updates. =<

A cysto generally shouldn't cost too much more..I think our clients are charged $20 or so, not positive though. It's really less time consuming than sending a tech outside with a dog and standing around waiting for dogs to pee (and most dogs think we are creepy with our ladle)

We use dixie cups which means 80% of the time we get peed on. But yeah, dogs start peeing and then "WTF ARE YOU DOING WITH THAT CUP?!?" lol

We do have those hospital vomit basins as well, lol. And I actually prefer them (more pee catching area) but we only had a set amount and we also send them home as pee catch kits for owners and sometimes they don't bring them back :( Thus...ladle :(

It's $115 which includes sending it off to the lab for analysis.

My mom watched me collect his pee this morning (she went with me to hold him in the car so he wouldn't pee in my car) and I said "Don't worry. I'm very good at this. Unfortunately, I'm very good at this."
"And Auggie doesn't even care?"
"Nope... done it enough at this point that he doesn't care."

Poor Augs.

If it includes a culture/sensitivity that's a pretty decent price. If this round doesn't work it might be worth sending off a culture. However, I had one sent off to Idexx on Gavroche before and although they saw bacteria, they didn't grow anything, so it was mostly useless :/

Ah, didn't realize it was the u/a price as well. Although that still seems high. (they're just poking a needle in there) It's a good price if the culture is included, though.

Goose,as a puppy, had endless vaginitis issues plus one bout of crystals. Our culture never showed anything in her case either. In her case she outgrew the issues, though, thankfully. For awhile there, though, we were very 'whyyyy did we get a girl puppy?!" lol

Aww poor Auggie! Mr. Peebody

I hope you can figure out whats going on with him... Just throwing this out there, my trainer whose BC had recurring utis completely resolved the issues by feeding raw. It might be worth trying?

Honestly I considered that, but I am in no way equipped (space wise or financially) to feed raw right now. =/ And pre-made raw is too expensive too. I looked into pre-made back when Payton was having poop problems and yikes. X_X

*flails hopelessly*
The lab couldn't grow ANYTHING from his culture and sensitivity. So Doc thinks the problem is lower than his bladder and has given me a referral to the university. sigh.

Not sure if you're already doing this, but have you tried a bellyband? It's not a cure, but it will atleast help protect your floor/stuff while you figure out what's going on.

Charlotte has bladder issues and has to wear a diaper inside. It sucks, but we love her.

Is Auggie neutered? This just sounds SO much like what's going on with Gavroche, and I'm 99.9% sure it's a direct result of being neutered. Gavroche has just come off his antibiotics about a week or two ago, and so far so good, but next time he starts leaking I'm going to consider testosterone injections. Proin did NOTHING for him. My theory is that lack of testosterone means a weak sphincter, which means not only can urine get our, but bacteria can get in, causing intermittent low-grade UTIs. The only difference is so far Gavroche has not had any stones, but that is possibly unrelated to Auggie's current issues anyway.

I really hope you get something figured out with poor Auggie. It's really frustrating, I know, I've been there :/
