Just found out about some layoffs at DH's job, sooooo we're starting to think about what we'd do worst case and he wants me to think about alternative locations.
Top cities we could end up in:
Raleigh, NC
Boston, MA
Chicago, IL
Austin, TX
San Jose, CA
San Diego, CA
Raleigh is my top pick by far because I already have friends there and I know the state and metro area fairly well. The dog scene is also awesome. If it's Raleigh or somewhere else, Raleigh is going to win out unless there's a HUGE reason the other job is better long term. If it's between any of the other cities, well, that's what I need your help with.
Criteria:
- DH wants to be within an hour's commute on public transit or 45 mins by car.
- I need to be close - within 2 hours - to a variety of dog sports, including good IPO clubs (would consider PSA), USDAA agility, dockdogs, flyball, AKC obedience, rally, and coursing, and barn hunt.
- multiple hiking options within an hour's drive with trails over 5 miles in length if possible
- COL in general isn't a huge issue, but we would like to be able to find a house with a yard and ideally at least an acre to *buy* soon after moving. We don't have a million in the bank for this and don't want to have to buy bulletproof glass, either.
- some cultural events, access to some more liberal, crunchy populations.
- easily accessible kid and dog friendly events/opportunities
So have at it!
